Rahul Bhat, known for his role in the Netflix series 'Black Warrant', has recently voiced his concerns regarding the evolving nature of the Cannes Film Festival. Bhat, who attended Cannes for the third time this year, expressed his disappointment with the festival's increasing focus on fashion and celebrity culture, suggesting it overshadows the true essence of cinema.

In an interview with Brut India, Bhat articulated his discomfort with the growing trend of individuals attending Cannes primarily for photo opportunities rather than for the celebration of film. He emphasized that he walked the red carpet "for real," owing to the selection of his films, 'Ugly' and 'Kennedy', at the festival, and not for mere publicity or fashion displays. He lamented the need to constantly reiterate that his presence was tied to his work in films, not fashion or PR stunts, stating, "I walked the red carpet for real, not for fashion. Not for taking pictures, not for PR machinery... I am forced to tell this to people, but I don't know how to blow my own trumpet.”

Bhat's sentiments resonate with a growing number of voices online who feel that Cannes has lost some of its prestige due to the influx of celebrities and influencers. Many online users have described the festival as having turned into a "circus," with some comparing it to a "Met Gala knockoff." One user humorously commented that influencers will soon be attending the Nobel Prize ceremony, signaling a perceived decline in the exclusivity and significance of such events.

Despite his criticism, Bhat acknowledges that fashion has always been an integral part of the movie industry. He mentioned in an interview with India Today that "Anywhere movie stars go, they bring fashion with them. You can’t have it without that." He also appreciates the vibrant atmosphere and grandeur of watching films at the Grand Theatre in Cannes.

Bhat's recent appearance at Cannes marked a significant milestone in his career, as he unveiled the poster for his Hollywood debut, 'Lost & Found in Kumbh.' The film, directed by Mayur Puri, is a dramedy set against the backdrop of the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Bhat described it as a "cute, engaging film" and a departure from the darker, more serious roles he is typically known for. The actor will also be portraying politician Sanjay Gandhi in Sudhir Mishra's 'Summer of 77', which will stream on SonyLIV.
