The world of cinema is preparing for a unique event as Julien's Auctions and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) present "The David Lynch Collection," an auction featuring over 450 personal items from the late, revered filmmaker David Lynch. The auction, a comprehensive look into the creative life of the director known for his surreal and enigmatic style, will take place on June 18, 2025, both online and at Julien's Auction House in Gardena, California.

David Lynch, who passed away in January 2025, left an indelible mark on film and television with works like "Twin Peaks," "Mulholland Drive," "Eraserhead," and "Blue Velvet." This auction offers fans and collectors a chance to own a piece of his legacy, with items ranging from his director's chair to props from his iconic films. Catherine Williamson, managing director of entertainment at Julien's Auctions, expressed honor in representing this collection, highlighting the historical and cherished nature of the items.

The auction boasts a wide array of items that reflect Lynch's diverse creative passions. Film-related memorabilia includes a 35mm print of "Eraserhead," prop menus from Winkie's Sunset Boulevard as seen in "Mulholland Drive", and a "Twin Peaks"-inspired red curtain and zig-zag carpet reminiscent of the Black Lodge. His personalized director's chair is also among the prized possessions up for sale. Beyond film props, the collection extends to items that showcase Lynch's broader artistic interests, such as audio equipment, musical instruments (guitars, keyboards, trumpets, violins), painting supplies, literature, and vinyl records, including albums from Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and more.

Furniture from Lynch's home, including a vintage chenille sofa similar to the one in "Lost Highway," kitchenware, and even his favored espresso machine, will also be auctioned. Lynch was known to be a coffee lover, and his espresso machine is expected to be a popular item among bidders.

The upcoming auction has sparked a range of reactions from fans. Some express excitement at the prospect of owning a piece of Lynch's history, while others feel a sense of sadness that such personal items are being offered to the highest bidder. Some fans have expressed disappointment, feeling that such intimate pieces of Lynch's life should be preserved in a museum. In response to these concerns, Lynch's daughter, Jen Lynch, clarified that the auction includes items from his homes, personal furniture, and things he loved, while his invaluable archives will be sold or given to a school or museum.

The "Hollywood Legends" auction on June 19 and 20 will feature additional Lynch memorabilia alongside items from other cinematic landmarks like "O Brother, Where Art Thou" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Highlights from the David Lynch Collection will also be displayed at a sold-out Cinespia screening of "Blue Velvet" on May 31, offering fans a preview of the treasures to come.
