A recent interview with Aamir Khan has sparked speculation about his future in the film industry, with the superstar hinting that his dream project, Mahabharat, could potentially be his last film. Khan, known for his meticulous approach to filmmaking and his commitment to meaningful stories, has described the epic Mahabharat as a project that encompasses every layer of emotion and scale. He believes that after dedicating himself to such a monumental cinematic endeavor, he might find himself completely fulfilled as an actor.

Khan's latest comments have fueled existing rumors about his possible retirement. Speaking with Raj Shamani, Khan confessed that after the release of his upcoming movie Sitaare Zameen Par, scheduled to release on June 20, 2025, he intends to start working on Mahabharat. When asked if he was about to make his last film, he admitted that it's his dream to make Mahabharat. The actor paused for a while, and added that after working on Mahabharat, maybe he will get the feeling that now he has nothing left in him to do. He cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that. “Layered hai, emotion hai, scale hai, har cheez hai usme. Har cheez jo duniya me hai wo aapko Mahabharat me milegi,” added the star. Khan has indicated that Mahabharat is so fulfilling that he might not be able to do anything after it.

While acknowledging the possibility of retirement, Aamir Khan also expressed his hope to "die with his shoes on," suggesting a desire to remain active and engaged in his craft until the very end. However, he admitted that the sheer magnitude and emotional depth of Mahabharat could leave him with a sense of completion, making it difficult to envision taking on other projects afterward. "Shayad yeh karne ke baad mere andar woh emotion aaye ki ab iske baad mujhe kuch nahi karna, shayad," he stated.

The actor has been working hard on his upcoming projects after his last film, Laal Singh Chaddha, failed to impress at the box office. Despite the disappointment, Khan is gearing up for Sitaare Zameen Par, a thematic sequel to his critically acclaimed 2007 film, Taare Zameen Par.

Beyond Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan has several other projects in the pipeline. He is reportedly in talks for a comedy film with Sidharth Malhotra and is expected to make cameo appearances in Lahore 1947 and Coolie. Additionally, there are ongoing discussions with Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally for a potential collaboration. He is also teaming up with Rajkumar Hirani for a biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke, the father of Indian cinema. The script has been in the works for four years, and Aamir will start preparing for the role after Sitaare Zameen Par is released.

Khan's passion for storytelling extends beyond acting and producing. At the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, he advocated for increased cinematic collaboration between India and China, highlighting the cultural similarities and emotional connections between audiences in both countries. Khan even revealed that talks of an Indo-Chinese co-production have been ongoing for years, hinting that the time may finally be right to bring such a project to life.

Aamir Khan's journey has not been without its challenges. He has spoken openly about experiencing depression following the failure of some of his films. He emphasizes the importance of prioritizing sleep, eating well, staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and practicing meditation. He also revealed that he and his daughter, Ira Khan, have been attending joint therapy sessions to strengthen their relationship and improve communication. In January 2025, Aamir Khan revealed that he had quit smoking, a habit he had struggled with for years.

Whether or not Mahabharat marks the end of Aamir Khan's illustrious career remains to be seen. However, his recent statements suggest that the project holds a profound significance for him, potentially representing the culmination of his artistic vision and a satisfying conclusion to his journey in the film industry.
