Nidhi Bhanushali, known for her portrayal of Sonu Bhide in the popular sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" (TMKOC), recently addressed the possibility of her return to the show in an exclusive interview. While fans often express their desire to see her reprise her role, Bhanushali's response suggests that a comeback might not be in the cards.
Bhanushali's journey with TMKOC began in 2012 when she replaced Jheel Mehta as Sonu. She became a beloved member of the Tapu Sena and garnered immense love from viewers. However, in 2019, she decided to leave the show to focus on her higher studies. Palak Sindhwani replaced Bhanushali and played Sonu until 2024, after which Khushi Mali took over the role.
When asked about a potential return to TMKOC, Nidhi's response indicated that going back would negate her personal growth since leaving the show. She seemed content with her journey and where she is now.
Since leaving TMKOC, Nidhi has embraced a different lifestyle, marked by travel and exploration. She has been involved in various projects, including a role in the web series "Sisterhood". In "Sisterhood," Nidhi plays Gargee, a character navigating self-discovery and resilience in an all-girls convent school, bringing a unique perspective and challenging traditional norms.
Nidhi has also opened up about her reasons for leaving TMKOC. She revealed that the repetitive routine and demanding schedule led to an emotional breakdown. She felt the need to take a break and prioritize her well-being.
Nidhi also shared her thoughts on Disha Vakani's possible return to TMKOC. Vakani, who played the iconic character of Dayaben, has been absent from the show since 2017. Nidhi expressed that the decision to return should solely be Disha's, and everyone should respect her choice. She acknowledged Disha's immense contribution to the show and the joy she brought to the audience. Nidhi fondly recalls Disha's kindness and generosity, stating that Disha is the kindest and most generous person.
"Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah," which premiered in 2008, has remained one of India's most popular comedy shows. The current cast includes Dilip Joshi as Jethalal, Amit Bhatt as Champaklal, Mandar Chandwadkar as Atmaram Bhide, and Sonalika Joshi as Madhavi Bhide. In 2025, the show experienced a resurgence in popularity, topping the TRP charts with its "Bhootni" horror-comedy track.
