Veteran action director Sham Kaushal, father of Bollywood stars Vicky and Sunny Kaushal, has recently shared a deeply personal experience about his battle with cancer in 2003 and the emotional turmoil it caused. In a recent podcast with Aman Aujla, Kaushal revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer shortly after experiencing severe abdominal pain while shooting for the film 'Lakshya' in Ladakh.

Following the diagnosis, doctors informed Kaushal that his chances of survival were slim. This devastating news led him to contemplate ending his life. He recounted a dark moment when he considered jumping from the third floor of the hospital where he was admitted. Kaushal explained that he wasn't acting out of weakness but felt that if death was inevitable, he would rather choose the time. However, he was unable to move due to post-surgery pain.

Kaushal underwent a three-hour surgery, and it took him three days to fully regain consciousness. He sensed the worry and tension in the room, and later learned that tests confirmed the cancerous nature of the removed tissue and that his survival was unlikely. The action director kept his diagnosis private for fear of losing work. He feared that his health condition would negatively impact his professional opportunities.

Kaushal then turned to prayer, asking God to grant him ten more years of life, as his children were still young. This marked a turning point, helping him overcome his fear of death and instilling a belief that he could recover with a couple of surgeries. For the next year, he underwent numerous tests and surgeries, remaining resilient throughout the process. Fortunately, the cancer did not spread.

Kaushal, who began his career as a stuntman and rose to prominence as an action director in the 1990s, has worked in both Bollywood and Hollywood, including the Academy Award-winning film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. He is known for his work in films such as 'Gangs of Wasseypur', 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', 'PK', and 'Padmaavat'.

Sham Kaushal's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. His willingness to share his experience can offer strength and encouragement to others facing similar challenges.
