During the filming of the 1997 film Pardes, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Shah Rukh's wife, was pregnant with their first child, Aryan. As the film neared completion, Gauri experienced pregnancy complications, requiring Shah Rukh to return to Delhi urgently. Despite the personal emergency, he remained committed to finishing his work.

Director Subhash Ghai had kept the filming of the song "Yeh Dil Deewana" for the end of the schedule. With only two days left for the shoot, Shah Rukh informed Ghai that he needed to leave for Delhi and could not extend his schedule. Understanding the urgency, Ghai and Shah Rukh devised a plan to ensure the song was completed.

Shah Rukh Khan shot close-up shots for "Yeh Dil Deewana" in a mere two hours. Ghai asked him to arrive early in the morning, and they focused on capturing three close-up shots. The remaining scenes, including long shots of the car across various locations, were filmed using a body double. This efficient approach allowed the team to complete the song despite the limited time.

Shah Rukh even filmed some portions of the song while on his way to the airport to fly to Delhi. In an interview, Shah Rukh recounted that Subhash Ghai told him they would shoot the song while he was being driven to the airport. The director believed in newcomer Sonu Nigam, who was singing for Shah Rukh for the first time, and wanted to capture the song.

Sonu Nigam's rendition of "Yeh Dil Deewana" became a major hit and marked the beginning of his long association with Shah Rukh Khan. He went on to sing many iconic songs for the actor, including "Kal Ho Naa Ho", "Suraj Hua Maddham", and "Main Hoon Na".

Pardes was released in August 1997, and Aryan Khan was born in November of the same year. Despite the challenges and time constraints, "Yeh Dil Deewana" remains one of Shah Rukh Khan's most memorable songs, showcasing his professionalism and dedication even during personal difficulties.
