Amidst recent controversies surrounding her participation in a roast show, Kusha Kapila has shared a cryptic message on social media, hinting at her emotional state and urging her followers to disregard negativity. The post, which included the words "Past Doesn't Exist Anymore," and a request not to be attacked, comes after Kapila faced backlash for her involvement in Samay Raina's roast, where jokes about her divorce and personal life were made.

Kapila's participation in Ashish Solanki's 'Pretty Good Roast Show' has sparked debate about the boundaries of humor and the impact of public criticism. In a detailed statement, Kapila addressed the situation, clarifying that she wasn't paid to appear on the show and was unaware of the nature of the jokes beforehand. She expressed feeling "dehumanized" by some of the jokes, particularly those concerning her divorce from Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia, whom she separated from in June 2023, and her body.

The controversy ignited when Samay Raina, among other comedians, made jokes about Kapila's marriage, divorce, and even her personal life. Raina's jokes included references to Kapila as a "gold digger" and remarks about her dog, which she shares with her ex-husband. These jokes, coupled with digs at her recent weight loss, led to public criticism and accusations that Kapila had allowed herself to be ridiculed for money.

In response to the backlash, Kapila clarified that her participation was "done in good faith and for a friend". She admitted that not asking for a script beforehand was a "rookie mistake" and emphasized that she "absolutely was not okay" with the jokes being aired to millions, as some of them "straight up dehumanized" her. She described the experience as "shockingly unkind" and a significant learning experience, leading her to carefully negotiate every word in her contracts moving forward.

Kapila also addressed the criticism she received for not walking out of the roast, stating that she would have been trolled as a 'coward' and 'crybaby' had she done so. She revealed that during negotiations following the roast, she was told that she "deserved these jokes" as a divorced woman. However, she chose peace over endless discourse that would likely villainize women.

Following the controversy, Kapila shared a cryptic note on her Instagram stories, stating, "When someone's trying to disempower you, it's their garbage. It's not yours to store. Let it slide off you". She accompanied the post with Curtis Mayfield's song "Move," seemingly urging herself and her followers to move forward from negativity.

The incident has prompted Kapila to reassess her boundaries and be more cautious about future collaborations. She stated that she would not participate in another roast without knowing what to expect. Kapila's experience has also sparked discussions about the responsibilities of artists and the importance of respecting boundaries in comedy.

Kapila's recent projects include a role in the web series Life Hill Gayi, which premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on August 9. She was also seen in Thank You For Coming.
