James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios and director of the upcoming film Superman, has recently addressed rumors surrounding Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II, calling them "nonsense". Gunn's comments, made on the social media platform Threads, specifically targeted speculation about the inclusion of Batman's sidekick, Robin, in the sequel.

The rumors, which had been circulating online, gained traction after notable insider Jeff Sneider reported that Robin would be part of the script for The Batman Part II. Sneider also claimed the sequel would be "worth the wait" and a "big swing". However, Gunn quickly responded to a fan inquiry, dismissing the reports. "Guys please stop believing this nonsense," Gunn wrote. "I think six of us have read the script. No one knows anything about the Batman 2". He also refuted rumors about the villain Hush appearing in the film. Gunn had previously stated that "everything you've heard is a total guess or made up," and that only a small group of people know the actual story concept.

Despite Gunn's denial, Sneider responded by hinting that Gunn's wording was a "non-denial denial". However, the prevailing sentiment seems to align with Gunn's statement, suggesting that Robin will not be appearing in the film.

The Batman Part II is the sequel to the critically and commercially successful 2022 film, The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader. Pattinson is expected to reprise his role, along with Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin. The film is intended to be the third installment in Reeves' "The Batman Epic Crime Saga," following the events of The Batman and The Penguin.

The film is scheduled to begin production in the spring of 2026 in England and is set for release on October 1, 2027.

Gunn's remarks also touched upon the broader DC Universe (DCU) plans. While The Batman Part II exists in a standalone universe established by Matt Reeves, DC Studios is also developing a separate Batman series within the main DCU, launching with Andy Muschietti's The Brave and the Bold. This film will feature a different actor as Batman and is expected to crossover with other DCU characters, such as David Corenswet's Superman. Gunn even teased the possibility of Superman and Batman having already met in the DCU, stating, "We don't know he hasn't already seen a man dressed as a bat".

Gunn has also addressed the casting for the DCU Batman, confirming that no decisions have been made yet. He emphasized that the script for The Brave and the Bold is still in development.

In addition to addressing The Batman Part II rumors, Gunn has also dismissed claims about Superman's financial performance, calling them "absolutely false". He clarified that the film does not need to gross $650 million to be considered profitable. Superman is currently performing well at the box office and is set to be released digitally later this month.

With The Batman Part II still years away, fans will have to remain patient for official details about the film. For now, James Gunn has made it clear that the rumors circulating online should be taken with a grain of salt.
