Linda Thompson's Elvis Presley Romance: A Transformative First Love & Enduring Impact Across 4.5 Years

Linda Thompson, former beauty queen and songwriter, recently shared a heartfelt tribute to Elvis Presley on what would have been his 91st birthday. Through an emotional Instagram post, Thompson reflected on their four-and-a-half-year relationship, describing it as a period that profoundly shaped her life.

Thompson's connection with Elvis began in July 1972, after being invited to a private movie screening at the Memphian Theater in Memphis. At the time, Thompson was Miss Tennessee Universe. She and Presley dated for four years, breaking up around Christmas 1976. Thompson recalls that their meeting was facilitated by Bill Browder, who later became known as country artist TG Shepard.

In her Instagram post, Thompson shared a montage of photos capturing intimate moments from their time together. She expressed that Elvis was not only her idol and crush but also her "first love," someone she would never forget. "4 1/2 years of living with him helped to shape my life forever," she wrote.

Thompson painted a picture of a deep and complex relationship built on "frivolity, passion, secrets, trust, heartache, hard truths," and above all, "the deepest love and respect for one another". She emphasized that the memories created during their time together remain irreplaceable.

Linda and Elvis broke up less than a year before his death. Thompson wanted a more normal life, which was difficult to achieve with Presley's lifestyle. Although they broke up, they remained friends until Presley's death. Thompson revealed she would often worry about him and call Graceland to check on him.

Even after their separation, Thompson remained close to Elvis's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. She fondly remembers their bond and how Lisa Marie accepted her. It was Lisa Marie who called Thompson to inform her of Elvis's death.

Thompson has spoken about Elvis's generous nature, loyalty, and love for life. She also acknowledged his self-destructive tendencies. Thompson has previously mentioned instances where she felt she had saved his life, and others, including Elvis's father, had said that if she had been with him, he might still be alive.

Beyond his musical legacy, Thompson also remembers Elvis's love for animals. He was known to gift pets and had a diverse collection of animals at Graceland. Thompson herself is an animal advocate.

Thompson concluded her Instagram tribute hoping that Elvis is sharing his "incomparable voice with the angels in heaven". Her enduring affection for Elvis and the significance of their time together remain evident as she continues to honor his memory.
