Chrissy Teigen, the 39-year-old model and television personality, recently shared a candid revelation about her relationship with alcohol, four years afterembracing sobriety. In an Instagram post, Teigen confessed that she has "let it back into my life," a disclosure that resonated with many, including singer Demi Lovato, who has been open about her own past struggles with addiction.
Teigen, who initially quit drinking in December 2020, attributed her decision at the time to a desire to stop "making an a** of myself in front of people." She also credited Holly Whitaker's book, 'Quit Like A Woman,' for helping her on her initial path to sobriety. However, in her recent post, while promoting an upcoming podcast interview with Whitaker, Teigen admitted the complexities of her journey. "The truth is, I don't know what I'm doing," she wrote, expressing her disappointment in letting some people down.
Teigen articulated a clear understanding of her preferences, stating, "I one hundred percent know I like me better sober. I one hundred percent know I get more done, I absolutely feel better in my body without it." Yet, she also voiced her frustration with not being able to enjoy alcohol in moderation, lamenting that "I am one hundred percent p* that I can't be normal and have a cocktail with my husband on vacay without it turning into eight and feeling like s*."
The model's honest reflection also touched on the impact of her sobriety on her family life. "Photos of my kid's birthday parties are no longer me with bleary, sleepy drinking eyes. And I am proud of that," she shared. Despite this progress, Teigen acknowledged that her relationship with alcohol "just isn't normal and never will be."
Demi Lovato was among the celebrities who responded to Teigen's vulnerable post with messages of support. Lovato, who has been candid about their own journey with addiction and recovery, commended Teigen's honesty and vulnerability. "Your honesty and vulnerability is so commendable," Lovato wrote. "I learned it's about progress, not perfection! You are doing amazing and I'm so very proud of you."
Teigen's husband, John Legend, also showed his support, commenting, "Always proud of you." Actress Jamie Pressly echoed the sentiment, praising Teigen's "pure and total honesty" as "a breath of fresh air always."
Teigen's message resonated with many within the sober community and those navigating similar challenges. She concluded her post with a message of solidarity: "This is for all the people who are figuring it out. And to the sober community, god I am still so, so proud of you. Until we meet again."
