Vivek Agnihotri is back with the teaser of his upcoming film, "The Bengal Files: Right to Life," a stark portrayal of Bengal's dark past. As the third installment in his "Files" trilogy, following "The Tashkent Files" (2019) and "The Kashmir Files" (2022), this film promises to delve into the horrific communal violence that plagued undivided Bengal during the 1940s. The teaser was released on June 12, 2025, at 12 PM, generating significant buzz and anticipation. The film is slated to release on September 5, 2025.

Agnihotri's decision to rename the film from "The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter" to "The Bengal Files: Right to Life" came after numerous public requests. He emphasizes that the film will explore critical historical events such as Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots, characterizing them as a "Hindu genocide," aiming to shed light on a neglected chapter of Indian history.

The recently launched teaser offers a glimpse into the socio-political environment of Bengal in 1946. It features Mithun Chakraborty in a haunting avatar, walking in a dark corridor with a rugged look and white beard, solemnly reciting the Preamble to the Constitution with a visibly burnt tongue. The teaser also introduces the principal characters like Darshan Kumar as Shiva Pandit, Anupam Kher as Mohandas Gandhi and Pallavi Joshi as Maa Bharati.

The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi and Darshan Kumar. Simratt Kaur, Puneet Issar, Govind Namdev, Mohan Kapur, Palomi Ghosh, Divya Palat and others also star in the film.

Produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi and presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal in association with I Am Buddha Productions, "The Bengal Files: Right to Life" has shifted its production base from Kolkata to Mumbai to ensure the safety of the cast and crew.

Agnihotri's "Files" trilogy is known for its investigative storytelling and deep historical narratives. "The Kashmir Files," in particular, sparked considerable debate and controversy for its depiction of the plight of Kashmiri Hindus during the 1990s militancy. With "The Bengal Files: Right to Life," Agnihotri continues his politically charged storytelling, aiming to present a compelling yet controversial chapter of Indian history.

The film is based on the communal violence in Bengal during the 1940s, focusing on events like Direct Action Day, also known as the Great Calcutta Killings, which occurred in August 1946, and the Noakhali riots.
