Shakira's highly anticipated concert at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Friday, June 13, 2025, was abruptly postponed due to structural issues with the stage, leaving thousands of fans waiting for hours in sweltering heat and expressing their disappointment and frustration. The announcement came just before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start time, sending shockwaves through the crowd and igniting a wave of anger on social media.
According to reports, Alamodome officials initially delayed opening the gates to the venue due to unspecified "ongoing issues." Concertgoers were left standing in long lines outside the stadium, with temperatures soaring above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius). Many fans took to social media to share their experiences, with some reporting that people were fainting in the heat. "One hour in line with temperatures over 32 Celsius (90 Fahrenheit), people fainting and @Alamodome and @shakira doesn't care at all about the fans," one attendee tweeted. Another added, "Worst concert experience ever #shakira. So this crowd has been waiting over an hour and a half. But the #alamodome refuses to open the gates. People are passing out. Apparently all over stage issues."
The official postponement was announced via social media at 6:54 p.m. with the Alamodome citing "stage structural issues" as the reason. Live Nation Entertainment confirmed the postponement, stating, "Unfortunately, Shakira's performance tonight has been postponed due to structural issues. All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date once announced. More information will be emailed to ticketholders directly when available. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Shakira herself addressed the situation in a statement posted on Facebook. She explained that the structural issue involved a truss provided by a third-party company that supports the stage and ceiling. "To perform in each city, we rely on a third party who locally provides the infrastructure to support the stage and the ceiling from which my production hangs," Shakira wrote. "I am so sad to inform you what I have been told: that due to a structural issue with a truss provided by this third-party company to support my stage, we are being forced to reschedule my sold-out show in San Antonio originally planned for tonight, June 13." She further stated that after a similar issue in Boston, she had demanded a new group of engineers to re-evaluate the structure and was assured that it had been reinforced. "To not be able to perform for you tonight deeply affects me and my fans in San Antonio. I am here, devastated and heartbroken," she added.
The last-minute postponement sparked considerable backlash online, with fans criticizing both Shakira's team and the Alamodome for their handling of the situation. Some fans questioned why the issue wasn't detected earlier, while others expressed frustration over the lack of communication and the uncomfortable waiting conditions. "How can you cancel on San Antonio at the last minute???? 40,000 people turned away?" one person vented. Another wrote, "There is some bigger problem happening in @shakira team. How come in few cities she cancels concert on the day of its happening and it's related to structural issues?"
In addition to the concert postponement, many fans were also upset about the $60 parking fee charged by the Alamodome. A spokesperson for the venue stated that anyone who paid for parking through ParkHub would be reimbursed to the credit card that they used.
The rescheduled date for the San Antonio concert is yet to be announced. Shakira is expected to resume her "Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour" in Houston on Monday, June 16th, 2025.
