The ongoing debate surrounding work hours in the film industry has found a new voice in Kajol, who recently shared her experiences and perspectives amidst the controversy surrounding Deepika Padukone's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's "Spirit." The crux of the issue revolves around Deepika's alleged request for an eight-hour workday, which reportedly led to disagreements with Vanga and her subsequent departure from the project.

Kajol, who is currently promoting her upcoming film "Maa", has weighed in on the matter, emphasizing the importance of work-life balance. While she didn't directly comment on Deepika's situation or take sides, she highlighted that, throughout her career, she has always prioritized maintaining a balance between her professional and personal life. Kajol revealed that she was clear about her working hours and never worked for extended periods of 20 to 30 hours. She also mentioned that she would focus on one film at a time, ensuring that she wasn't juggling multiple projects simultaneously. According to Kajol, this approach was greatly supported by her mother and later by her husband, Ajay Devgn.

Kajol shared instances where producers were understanding of her personal commitments, particularly after the birth of her daughter, Nysa. She recalled shooting for "U Me Aur Hum" (2008) when her father was in the hospital and Nysa was just two years old. Ajay Devgn, who was the producer of the film, ensured that Kajol could leave early to visit her father in the hospital, showcasing the industry's capacity for flexibility and understanding.

The actress also reminisced about filming "Fanaa" (2006) after Nysa's birth, noting that the team accommodated her needs without any contractual obligations or issues. Kajol expressed that her experiences have generally been positive, with most people in the industry demonstrating understanding and flexibility.

Earlier, at the trailer launch of "Maa," Ajay Devgn also addressed the issue, stating that most honest filmmakers would not have a problem with actors, especially mothers, requesting reasonable working hours. He noted that the industry is increasingly understanding and accommodating of such needs, with many already adapting to eight or nine-hour shifts.

The controversy began when reports surfaced that Deepika Padukone's request for an eight-hour workday and other on-set considerations led to her exit from "Spirit." Following this, Sandeep Reddy Vanga posted a cryptic message on social media, seemingly alluding to a breach of trust and violation of an "unsaid NDA." While he didn't directly name Deepika, the post was widely interpreted as a response to her departure and the reported reasons behind it.

The "Spirit" controversy and Kajol's recent comments have reignited the debate about work culture and expectations in the film industry. As more actors and filmmakers share their perspectives, it is evident that the industry is grappling with the need for more humane and sustainable working conditions, particularly for working mothers.
