Pawan Kalyan has lauded Kamal Haasan, referring to him as a "true master" of cinema, after the veteran actor received an invitation to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy, renowned for organizing the Oscars, has extended invitations to 534 artists and executives from around the world this year, including Haasan and Ayushmann Khurrana.

Pawan Kalyan, also the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, expressed his immense pride on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. He acknowledged Haasan's phenomenal six-decade-long career as an actor, director, and storyteller, emphasizing his significant impact on Indian and global cinema.

In his message, Kalyan highlighted Haasan's cinematic brilliance and versatile talent. He praised Haasan's exceptional command over every aspect of filmmaking, including writing, singing, directing, and producing. Kalyan stated that Haasan's influence extends far beyond national boundaries and hailed him as a "true master of the craft". He extended his heartfelt congratulations and wished Haasan many more years of impactful service to world cinema.

Kamal Haasan's invitation to join the Academy is a moment of pride for the Indian film industry. He has been selected as a member of the prestigious Academy Awards 2025 committee. This recognition is a testament to Haasan's enduring contributions to the world of filmmaking and global cinema. He joins a select group of Indian actors, with Suriya being the first to receive this honor in 2022.

The Academy's selection process involves nominations from two current members of the same category. Oscar nominees are also automatically considered for membership. The selection is based on professional merit, with an emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and equal representation. This year's class of invitees includes 41% women and 45% individuals from underrepresented groups, with 55% hailing from countries outside the United States.

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang expressed their excitement about welcoming the new class of artists, technologists, and professionals. They acknowledged the indelible contributions these individuals have made to the global filmmaking community through their commitment to filmmaking and the broader movie industry.

Kamal Haasan's recent work includes his appearance in Mani Ratnam's "Thug Life," alongside Trisha Krishnan and Abhirami. His selection by the Academy further solidifies his legacy as one of the most influential figures in Indian cinema. The 2026 Oscars ceremony is scheduled for March 15, with Conan O'Brien as the host.
