Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has voiced his support for Diljit Dosanjh amidst the controversy surrounding the Punjabi star's film "Sardaar Ji 3," which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The film's release and casting choice have stirred debate, with some questioning the collaboration in light of recent tensions between India and Pakistan.

The controversy arose after Dosanjh shared the trailer for "Sardaar Ji 3," which was released overseas on June 27 but did not debut in India. Social media users and trade unions like the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) have criticized Dosanjh for working with Aamir, particularly after the Pahalgam terror attack. Some have even called for a ban on Dosanjh.

Naseeruddin Shah defended Dosanjh, stating that the actor was not responsible for the film's casting. Shah placed the responsibility on the film's director, whose name has not been widely publicized. Shah argued that Dosanjh, being a globally recognized figure, has been unfairly targeted. He added that Diljit agreed to the cast because "his mind is not poisoned".

Shah expressed his disapproval of restricting personal interactions between India and Pakistan. He stated that he has close relatives and friends in Pakistan and that no one can stop him from meeting them or expressing his affection. To those who might suggest he "Go to Pakistan," Shah responded, "GO TO KAILASA".

Imtiaz Ali, who will feature Shah and Dosanjh in his next film, has also defended Dosanjh, emphasizing Dosanjh's patriotism. Ali said that Diljit is a "son of the soil" and displays his love for India at his concerts. Ali added, "I know that uske andar desh prem bahut zyada hai (He loves his country too much)".

Despite the controversy, Dosanjh has showcased the film's positive reception in Pakistan. He reposted a video on his Instagram account featuring audience reactions to "Sardaar Ji 3" in Pakistan.

The FWICE has boycotted Diljit and objected to his casting in the film Border 2. Singer Mika Singh has suggested that Diljit should apologize. According to reports, the core reason for the backlash against Hania Aamir is that she allegedly made remarks against India's Operation Sindoor and Armed forces.

In response to the criticism, Dosanjh clarified that the casting decision for "Sardaar Ji 3" predated the recent tensions and that the film was shot way before the Pulwama attack. He also stated that the movie will not be released in India, considering public sentiment.
