The highly anticipated sequel to the iconic 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is officially in production, with a scheduled theatrical release of May 1, 2026. 20th Century Studios confirmed the start of filming on June 30th, exciting fans with a social media post featuring the familiar red high heels with a pitchfork.

Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all set to reprise their roles. Streep will once again embody the formidable Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Hathaway returns as Andy Sachs, the aspiring journalist who finds herself under Miranda's demanding leadership. Blunt will once again play Emily Charlton, Miranda's ambitious assistant. Tucci reprises his role as Nigel, Miranda's long-suffering creative director.

However, not all the original cast members are returning. Adrian Grenier, who played Andy's boyfriend Nate, will not be in the sequel.

A new addition to the cast is Kenneth Branagh, who will play Miranda Priestly's husband. This casting decision hints at a deeper exploration of Miranda's personal life.

David Frankel, who directed the first film, is returning to direct the sequel, with Aline Brosh McKenna again penning the screenplay.

While specific plot details are scarce, reports suggest that the sequel will center on Miranda Priestly navigating the challenges of a declining magazine publishing industry. Emily, now a high-powered executive at a luxury fashion group, may find herself at odds with her former boss, potentially setting up a conflict between the two. The plot sees Miranda's once-dominant editorial empire fading into irrelevance, forcing her to grovel before Emily for ad dollars. It remains unclear how Andy Sachs will fit into the new storyline.

The original Devil Wears Prada was loosely based on Lauren Weisberger's novel of the same name, drawing inspiration from her time as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning Streep an Oscar nomination for her performance.

News of a sequel has been circulating for some time, with reports of its development surfacing in July 2024. Despite earlier mixed responses from the cast regarding a sequel, the project has now gained momentum, with production officially underway.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, hoping it will capture the same wit, style, and compelling characters that made the first film a beloved classic.
