Kusha Kapila is expanding her role in the entertainment industry by co-producing the short film Vyarth, where she also plays the lead. The official poster for Vyarth was revealed on Thursday. This marks a significant step for Kapila, showcasing her dedication to storytelling and desire to bring meaningful narratives to life.
Vyarth explores themes of typecasting and creative constraints within the film industry. The film centers on Bhumi, a talented but underrated actress who is frustrated with the limited and stereotypical roles she is offered. Bhumi's aspirations seem to be further challenged when she receives an offer to play a mother, a role she initially resents. The plot thickens when Bhumi's younger flatmate, Meenakshi, seeks her help with an audition for the same role.
Kapila's dual role as both actor and co-producer has given her a new perspective on filmmaking. She explains that as an actor, one delves deeply into the character's emotions, but as a producer, one must step back and consider the overall impact of all the elements. She describes it as a shift from focusing on delivering a line to understanding how all the components create a collective impact.
According to Kapila, Vyarth is more than just a film; it mirrors the real struggles against typecasting prevalent in the industry, which is central to Bhumi's journey. Kapila's journey, from creating humorous videos to acting in films and now co-producing, feels like a natural progression.
Pankaj Dayani, who previously worked as an assistant director on Newton, directs and co-produces Vyarth. Fahim Irshad wrote the script, and Romil Modi, known for his work in Laapataa Ladies and All We Imagine As Light, handled the casting. Swapnil S. Sonawale, the cinematographer behind Monica, O My Darling, is also part of the project.
