The highly anticipated war drama Border 2 has completed a significant stage of filming, with Sunny Deol announcing the wrap of his shoot. The veteran actor shared a powerful first look from the film, dressed in an army uniform, with a turban, walking with determination near a border milestone marked "INDIA 919". Deol, reprising his role as Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, conveyed his sentiments in an Instagram post, "Mission accomplished! Fauji, signing off! My shoot wrapped for #Border2. Jai Hind!". He also included the iconic song “Sandese Aate Hain” as the background score. Before the song, he is heard saying, “27 years ago, a Fauji promised to return. Today, fulfilling that promise, Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri is back—to salute the sacred soil of India".
Border 2 is a sequel to the 1997 blockbuster Border, a film based on the Battle of Longewala during the India-Pakistan War of 1971. The original film featured Sunny Deol alongside Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna and others. In this sequel, Deol will be joined by a new generation of actors, including Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.
Other members of the cast, including Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty, have also wrapped up filming schedules. Varun Dhawan announced the wrap of his schedule at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune. He shared a video with Ahan Shetty enjoying tea and biscuits, captioning it, "#Border2 Chai aur bizkoot it's a wrap for me at NDA Aur humna celebrate kiya bizkoot ke saath". Ahan Shetty also shared photos and videos with his co-stars and director Anurag Singh, expressing his desire to emulate his father, Suniel Shetty, who starred in the original Border.
Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh and produced by JP Dutta, Nidhi Dutta, Bhushan Kumar, and Krishan Kumar. The film is slated to release on January 23, 2026, coinciding with Republic Day weekend. The film promises to deliver "unparalleled action, gripping drama, and emotional depth," set against a backdrop of patriotism and courage.
According to sources, Border 2 will also be set during the 1971 war, similar to the first film. Sunny Deol has expressed his desire to maintain the essence of the original while presenting something new to the audience. The aim is to rekindle the same patriotic fervor among the younger generation.
There are reports that Sunny Deol will recreate his iconic rocket launcher scene from the original Border. Sources revealed that Deol insisted on performing his own stunts for the sequence. The scene has reportedly been shot, with the actor charging towards enemy positions with a heavy rocket launcher.
Border 2 has already faced some controversies, including objections from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) regarding the casting of Diljit Dosanjh. However, Dosanjh has continued filming, and has shared behind-the-scenes glimpses on social media.
With Sunny Deol completing his shoot and other cast members wrapping up schedules, Border 2 is steadily moving towards its release date. The film aims to showcase the untold stories of the Indian armed forces and continue the legacy of patriotic storytelling.
