Sofía Vergara, the celebrated actress known for her role in "Modern Family," has recently undergone her second knee surgery. She shared the update with her followers on Instagram on Friday, July 25, 2025, posting two photos from her hospital bed. One picture showed her smiling in a hospital gown, while the other showed her leg wrapped in a grey brace with a bandage over her knee.
Vergara captioned the photos with "It's done! Round 2," followed by a prayer emoji, red hearts, and the hashtag #knee. The 53-year-old actress did not disclose the specific details of the procedure or the reason for the second surgery. However, this marks her second knee operation in just over a year. In April 2024, she revealed her first knee surgery on Instagram Stories. At that time, she was supported by her then-boyfriend, orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman.
In a lighthearted post following her first surgery, Vergara thanked Saliman, humorously stating, "If u ever get a [major] knee surgery make sure u Get a handsome doctor who will sleep with u that night… ! Luv u". The couple has since ended their relationship in January 2025.
Vergara's knee issues appeared to affect her work last summer as a judge on "America's Got Talent". Backstage photos showed her using assistance while walking. Her co-judge Howie Mandel gifted her what looked like an electric pogo stick as a joke, referencing her mobility challenges.
Despite her recent surgery, Vergara continues to fulfill her professional commitments, including appearances on "America's Got Talent" and her Netflix series "Griselda". She is currently resting and focusing on her recovery. As of now, there have been no announced changes to her upcoming schedule.
In 2022, Vergara shared about being diagnosed with thyroid cancer at age 28. News of the recent procedure comes after Vergara finalized her divorce from actor Joe Manganiello earlier in July.
