Jaya Bachchan Sees Herself in Grandson Agastya Nanda: A Non-Conformist Spirit Shared Across Generations.

Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan has expressed immense confidence in her grandson, Agastya Nanda, particularly regarding his career choices and approach to life. With Agastya's theatrical debut in Sriram Raghavan's war drama Ikkis, Jaya shared her views on his determination and unique path.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Jaya Bachchan stated that Agastya is determined to forge his own path, much like she did. She said, "Luckily, Agastya is a fast learner. Neither of his parents are actors, so he's leaning on his grandparents and his Maamu (Uncle) Abhishek Bachchan for guidance". She added, "You know me — I wouldn't praise anyone, least of all my own children or grandchildren. But Agastya is special. That child is determined to forge his own path. Just like I once did. Like me, he won't follow the herd". This statement highlights Jaya's belief that Agastya possesses a similar independent spirit to her own, suggesting he will make his own choices rather than blindly following trends.

Agastya Nanda, who previously debuted in Zoya Akhtar's The Archies, is now set to appear in Ikkis, a film directed by Sriram Raghavan, known for thrillers such as Ek Hasina Thi, Badlapur, and Andhadhun. Ikkis is a war drama centered around the life of Arun Khetarpal, one of India's youngest recipients of the Param Vir Chakra. Khetarpal was only 21 years old when he sacrificed his life in the 1971 War. The film aims to showcase the courage and humanity of a soldier.

The Ikkis trailer introduces Agastya as Arun Khetarpal, depicting his journey and the extraordinary courage he displayed during the 1971 war. Jaya Bachchan's remarks come at a time when the trailer of Ikkis has just been released. The film also stars veteran actor Dharmendra and Jaideep Ahlawat. Ikkis is expected to be released in December 2025.

Agastya's role in Ikkis marks a significant shift from his previous work in The Archies, demonstrating his versatility and determination to establish his own identity in Bollywood. In Ikkis, Agastya Nanda seems to have found his footing, portraying a young, determined soldier. Jaya Bachchan's confidence in Agastya reflects not only a grandmother's pride but also a veteran's recognition of a unique spirit in the younger generation.
