Ajith Kumar Addresses Karur Stampede at Vijay's Rally, Criticizes Societal Obsession with Celebrations Over Safety.

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar has spoken out regarding the tragic stampede that occurred during a political rally organized by actor-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Karur on September 27, 2025. The incident, which took place in Velusamipuram, resulted in the deaths of 41 people, including women and children, and left over 60 injured.

Ajith addressed the tragedy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, expressing his condolences and emphasizing the need for collective responsibility. "I'm not trying to put anybody down, but like I say, there's so much happening in Tamil Nadu today because of this stampede that happened," Ajith stated. "That individual (Vijay) alone is not responsible; we are all responsible for it, and I think even the media has a part to play in this".

Ajith went on to say that society's "obsession with gathering a crowd to show your crowd" needs to end. He pointed out that such unruly behavior and dangerous overcrowding rarely occur at other public events, such as cricket matches. "Why is it only happening with film stars? It projects the entire film industry, world over, in a bad light," he said.

The actor acknowledged the importance of fan love and support, stating, "I have a good life because of my fans". However, he stressed that such enthusiasm must be expressed responsibly and monitored. Ajith also voiced his concern over certain fan practices, such as bursting firecrackers and tearing screens in the name of celebration, calling for an end to these dangerous behaviors. "We want that love, and this is what we work hard for… But there is a way to show that love," he said.

Vijay himself responded to the tragedy by expressing his grief and offering condolences to the families of the victims. He described the event as an "unbearable" and "indescribable pain," stating, "My heart is shattered".

Ajith's remarks come as an investigation has been launched to probe the Karur incident. His call for introspection and shared responsibility highlights the broader issues surrounding celebrity culture, public gatherings, and the need for safer practices to prevent future tragedies.

In related news, Ajith Kumar is preparing to reunite with director Adhik Ravichandran for a new film project, following their collaboration on "Good Bad Ugly". An official announcement is expected in January 2026.
