Salman Khan is facing legal scrutiny after a complaint was filed against him in the Kota Consumer Court, Rajasthan, alleging that advertisements for a pan masala brand he endorses are misleading. The court has issued notices to the Bollywood actor and the involved company, seeking a formal response.
The complaint was filed by Inder Mohan Singh Honey, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajasthan High Court advocate. Honey is seeking a ban on the advertisements, arguing they promote false claims about the product's contents, specifically regarding saffron. The complaint alleges that the company, Rajshree Pan Masala, and Khan are misleading the public by advertising the product as containing "saffron-infused cardamom" and "saffron-infused pan masala".
The petitioner raises concerns about the credibility of these claims, pointing out the economic impracticality of including saffron, which costs approximately ₹4 lakh per kilogram, in a product priced at ₹5. He suggests that such advertisements could encourage young people to consume pan masala, a product linked to an increase in cancer cases. Honey stated that Salman Khan is a role model for many, and urged that celebrities should not promote tobacco and pan masala to the youth, as it is one of the leading causes of mouth cancer.
The Kota Consumer Court has requested responses from Khan and the manufacturer before the next hearing, which is scheduled for November 27, 2025. While Salman Khan has appeared in commercials for Rajshree Elaichi, the company also produces pan masala, which has sparked debate over the ethical implications of celebrity endorsements.
