Chakda Xpress: Makers aim to reignite Jhulan Goswami's biopic after India's Women's World Cup triumph, reaching out to Netflix.

Following India's triumphant victory at the Women's Cricket World Cup on November 2, 2025, the makers of "Chakda Xpress," the biopic on former Indian captain Jhulan Goswami starring Anushka Sharma, are reportedly eager to revive the project. The film, which has been stalled for nearly three years, is now seeing renewed interest, with the filmmakers appealing to Netflix India to reconsider its release.

"Chakda Xpress" chronicles the inspiring journey of Jhulan Goswami, from her humble beginnings in a small West Bengal town to becoming one of the fastest bowlers in women's cricket history. Anushka Sharma, who plays the lead role, underwent rigorous training for seven months to prepare for the part. The film was envisioned as Sharma's comeback after a seven-year hiatus from the screen, following her 2018 film "Zero".

However, the project faced several hurdles. Production delays due to the pandemic, Anushka Sharma's pregnancy, and scheduling conflicts with director Prosit Roy contributed to the film's initial setbacks. After Netflix came on board as the streaming partner in 2022, creative differences reportedly arose between the platform and Clean Slate Filmz, the production house led by Anushka Sharma's brother, Karnesh Ssharma.

Reportedly, Netflix wasn't pleased with the initial footage and a teaser based on a look test was poorly received, leading to disagreements. Furthermore, the production allegedly went over budget, exacerbating the issues. Consequently, the film has been in limbo, with its rights currently held by Netflix.

India's recent World Cup win has reignited hope for the film's release. According to sources, the film's team has reached out to Netflix India's top executives, urging them to "rise above the conflict" so that the film can finally reach audiences. An insider revealed that internal discussions have commenced at Netflix, with a final decision expected this month regarding the film's potential release after additional work.

Many fans and netizens have also joined the call for the film's release, believing that there is no better time to honor Jhulan Goswami's legacy. Social media has been abuzz with demands for Netflix to release "Chakda Xpress," with many tagging Netflix India, Anushka Sharma, and Clean Slate Films. Some fans expressed frustration that the film, which wrapped shooting in 2022, has not yet seen the light of day.

Renuka Shahane, who reportedly watched the film, defended it and expressed shock at reports of it being shelved. She suggested that the final product deserves better than to be held back due to streaming service politics.

The success of women's sports biopics globally, such as "King Richard" and "Battle of the Sexes," has also fueled optimism that "Chakda Xpress" could capitalize on the current cultural interest in women's sports in India. Some believe that releasing the film during this period of heightened cricket consciousness could be beneficial, while further delays could cause the opportune moment to pass.
