Dulquer Salmaan's highly anticipated period drama, "Kaantha," has officially locked its release date. Movie enthusiasts can mark their calendars for November 14th, when the film will hit theaters worldwide. The announcement was made by the film's team on Diwali, accompanied by a retro-style poster featuring Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani, and Bhagyashri Borse.
"Kaantha," directed by Selvamani Selvaraj, is set in Madras during the 1950s and unfolds in the backdrop of the film industry. The film is produced by Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films in association with Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media. Initially slated for a September release, the film was postponed to allow Rana Daggubati’s recent hit, "Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra," to continue its successful run.
The film stars Dulquer Salmaan, Samuthirakani, and Bhagyashri Borse and revolves around the mysterious life of a legendary filmmaker. The recently released teaser showcases Dulquer's character receiving instructions from Samuthirakani's director character, who serves as a long-time mentor. Bhagyashri Borse plays the heroine in the film within the film, opposite Dulquer's character.
Dulquer Salmaan is currently enjoying a successful phase in his career as both an actor and producer. His recent film, "Lucky Bhaskar," was a blockbuster, and he also produced "Lokah Chapter 1 : Chandra," which became a major hit in Mollywood. "Kaantha" marks Dulquer's return to Tamil cinema after 2022's "Hey Sinamika".
The film boasts a strong technical team, with Dani Sanchez-Lopez handling the cinematography and Jhanu Chanthar composing the music. Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez is the editor, and Ramalingam is the art director.
The makers of "Kaantha" have opted for a solo release date, with minimal competition from other major films. However, without the advantage of a festival release, the film will rely on positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth to perform well at the box office. The release-date poster reveals the intense expressions of the lead characters, hinting at the film's emotionally charged tone. With its intriguing premise, stellar cast, and vintage setting, "Kaantha" promises to be a thrilling cinematic experience.
