The countdown to the 2025 Met Gala, scheduled for May 5th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, has reached fever pitch with the confirmed debut of Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan. This marks not only a personal milestone for the actor but also a historic moment for Indian representation on the global fashion stage, as he is set to become the first Indian male actor to walk the prestigious Met Gala red carpet.

Adding to the excitement, Shah Rukh Khan will be collaborating with none other than celebrated Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. This partnership is already generating considerable buzz, promising a fusion of Indian craftsmanship and global celebrity appeal. Sabyasachi, who is celebrating 25 years in fashion, is expected to create a unique ensemble that blends Indian aesthetics with the Met Gala's overarching theme.

The theme for the 2025 Met Gala is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," inspired by Monica L. Miller's book "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity." The theme aims to celebrate Black fashion and style, with a dress code of "Tailored To You," encouraging guests to showcase their personal style while paying homage to the theme. The exhibition will trace the evolution of Black menswear from 18th-century Europe to its modern influence.

News of Shah Rukh Khan's attendance was initially teased by the anonymous fashion and pop culture-based account Diet Sabya on Instagram, which sent fans into a frenzy. The post read, "STOP THE PRESSES!!! The impossible just happened! Two titans of their craft – the greatest Bollywood superstar – and the biggest designer of our generation – are joining forces for their MET Gala 2025 debut… HISTORY in the making!” The confirmation was further amplified when Shah Rukh's manager, Pooja Dadlani, liked the post, solidifying the speculation.

Adding to the star-studded Indian presence, actress Kiara Advani, reportedly expecting her first child, and singer Diljit Dosanjh are also rumored to be attending the event.

Vogue will host a live stream of the event across its digital platforms and YouTube, offering exclusive coverage of the red carpet. The live stream will be hosted by Teyana Taylor, La La Anthony, Ego Nwodim, and Emma Chamberlain.

The Met Gala, officially known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is an annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. It marks the opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit and is considered one of the most prestigious and exclusive fashion events in the world. With Shah Rukh Khan's debut, the 2025 Met Gala promises to be an unforgettable night, blending Bollywood glamour with global fashion trends and celebrating diversity and inclusion on a grand scale.
