Veteran Bollywood actor Jeetendra Kapoor's family has sold a substantial land parcel in Mumbai to NTT Global Data Centers & Cloud Infrastructure India for ₹855 crore. The transaction, finalized in May 2025, involves land and built-up area currently housing Balaji IT Park in Andheri. This strategic acquisition underscores NTT's commitment to expanding its data center capabilities in India, driven by the country's rapidly growing digital economy and the increasing demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The deal encompasses two contiguous land parcels spanning 9,664.68 square meters (2.39 acres). Existing on the site are three constructed buildings with a cumulative built-up area of 45,572.14 square meters (approximately 490,534 sq ft). Property registration documents reveal that the transaction incurred a stamp duty of ₹8.69 crore and registration charges of ₹30,000. The sellers, Pantheon Buildcon Pvt Ltd and Tusshar Infra Developers Pvt Ltd, are firms owned by Jeetendra Kapoor and his family.

NTT Global Data Centers is significantly expanding its presence in India. NTT plans to increase data center operations by 20% to a total of over 600,000 square meters in over 20 countries. NTT aims to establish data center campuses to drive business growth and enhance collaboration with partners. They are investing around $1.5 billion to more than double its data center capacity in India by fiscal year 2027. NTT DATA currently operates 21 data centers across four cities in India and plans to expand to 30 data centers in five cities. In the Mumbai region alone, NTT has three data center campuses. The Chandivali campus, with Mumbai 8 soon going live, will reach 85MW of IT load.

NTT is also focused on incorporating advanced technologies to optimize data center performance and sustainability. Three data centers in Mumbai are interconnected using IOWN (Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) technology, enabling faster, high-capacity, and energy-efficient transactions. NTT is deploying IOWN in India to interconnect data centers in the Mumbai region, providing high-capacity network access at lower costs. NTT DATA is enhancing its Innovation Centre in Bengaluru, focusing on AI, digital twin, and quantum computing projects, driving AI-led technology solutions. They operate nearly two-thirds of its Indian data centers on renewable energy and are committed to using 100% renewable energy by 2030 across all its data centers and operations.

The acquisition of the land parcel in Andheri aligns with NTT's broader strategy to strengthen its leadership position in the data center industry and cater to the escalating demand for robust digital infrastructure. In the next 18 months, four new hyperscale data center parks will become operational: two in Navi Mumbai and one each in Chennai and Delhi, adding approximately 133MW of IT load and 50,000 square meters of floorspace. Further interconnections for 10 data centers across India will also be rolled out, and submarine cable landing stations are planned in Mumbai and Chennai. NTT is constructing the "MIST" submarine cable connecting Singapore, Malaysia, and India (Mumbai and Chennai).
