The trailer for Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming film, "Detective Sherdil," has garnered attention, including a shoutout from global icon Priyanka Chopra. Chopra, known for her support of fellow Indian artists, expressed her anticipation for the film, further amplifying the buzz around this murder mystery. "Looking forward," she posted, adding to the excitement surrounding Dosanjh's latest project.

"Detective Sherdil," set to release on June 20, 2025, on ZEE5, features Dosanjh in the role of a quirky yet sharp detective investigating the murder of a billionaire tycoon, Pankaj Bhatti, played by Boman Irani, in Budapest. The film also stars Diana Penty as Natasha, a poised and brilliant investigator who teams up with Detective Sherdil. The ensemble cast includes Ratna Pathak Shah, Chunky Panday, Sumeet Vyas, and Banita Sandhu, adding depth and intrigue to the narrative.

The trailer, which premiered on June 10, 2025, introduces viewers to a world of suspense, dark comedy, and unexpected twists. The plot revolves around the shocking death of Pankaj Bhatti, which initially appears to be a hate crime but gradually unfolds into a tangled web of family secrets, hidden agendas, and billion-dollar betrayals. As Detective Sherdil and Natasha delve deeper into the case, they uncover a gripping game of deceit where every suspect harbors a secret that changes the narrative of the story.

Ravi Chhabriya, making his directorial debut with "Detective Sherdil," has crafted a narrative packed with suspense and clever writing. The screenplay, co-written by Sagar Bajaj and Ali Abbas Zafar, marks Zafar's second collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh after their critically acclaimed drama "Jogi."

Dosanjh himself has expressed his enjoyment in playing the role of Detective Sherdil, while Boman Irani noted that his character "commands attention, even in his absence," highlighting the depth of the cast and their performances. The film's unique blend of genres aims to offer something fresh for audiences, with its intriguing storyline and talented cast.

Several other celebrities, including Vicky Kaushal, have also shared their excitement for the film. Kaushal posted the trailer on his Instagram stories, calling it "Mazedaar." Fans have also drawn comparisons to Daniel Craig's "Knives Out," noting the similarities in the film's mystery-comedy elements.

While "Detective Sherdil" promises to be a thrilling and entertaining ride, some critics have noted that the trailer's punch is missing, with the story's hook and comedy falling somewhat flat. However, Dosanjh's presence and the film's overall style have generated significant anticipation.

Beyond "Detective Sherdil," Diljit Dosanjh has several other projects lined up. These include "Punjab 95," based on the life of Sikh activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, slated for release in February 2025, and "Border 2," a patriotic film set to hit theaters on January 23, 2026. Dosanjh will also be seen in Imtiaz Ali's untitled film alongside Sharvari Wagh and Vedang Raina, scheduled for release in April 2026.
