Following Sonakshi Sinha's interfaith marriage to Zaheer Iqbal on June 23, 2024, rumors of a family rift began circulating, particularly due to the noticeable absence of her brothers, Luv and Kussh Sinha, from the wedding celebrations. However, Kussh Sinha has recently addressed these speculations, suggesting that everything is fine within the family.
The absence of Luv and Kussh from the wedding fueled speculation about potential disapproval of the interfaith marriage within the Sinha family. Some reports even hinted at subtle remarks made by the brothers that suggested their discomfort with the union. Luv Sinha later addressed his absence in an Instagram post, criticizing what he described as a misleading "online campaign" targeting him. He stated, "Why I chose not to attend. Running an online campaign against me on a false premise won't change the fact that for me, my family will always come first".
Despite the rumors and Luv's absence, Sonakshi's parents, Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha, attended both the wedding and the reception, seemingly putting an end to any speculation of their disapproval. Shatrughan Sinha has been consistently supportive of his daughter's decision. In an earlier interview, before the wedding, he stated that he was not informed about any wedding plans but expressed confidence in Sonakshi's judgment, emphasizing her right to make her own decisions as a consenting adult. He also said, "Whenever my daughter gets married, I would like to be dancing right in front of the baaraat". Later, he said, "They are an absolutely made for each other couple... logo ne kuch bhi kehne ki koshish ki, but for us, the happiness of our children is paramount, especially that of our daughter. When we felt that she is happy and she will remain happy. After all, she hasn't done anything unconstitutional or against the law. Parents do a lot for their children, and this was our tiny contribution, to stand with our daughter".
Sonakshi also shared details about her conversation with her father regarding the marriage, revealing that she sought his permission and that he was supportive. She recounted, “Then I told him about Zaheer - that we've been together for so long, he makes me very, very happy and he's my best friend. I had a very lovely chat with my dad... And the best thing my dad told me after the conversation was, 'You are grown adults, you love each other, toh miyan biwi raazi toh kya karega kaazi?(when you guys are ok, everything is fine). Go for it".
Adding to the positive sentiments, Sonakshi's mother-in-law praised her in an audio message, describing her as an extremely kind and genuine person with a heart of "asli sona" (pure gold). She further added that she felt blessed to have Sonakshi as a daughter and could not imagine anyone better for Zaheer.
Sonakshi herself has addressed the rumors of a strained relationship with her brothers, stating that she doesn't dwell on them. She also shared that working with Kussh on the film 'Nikita Roy' was a professional experience, with no sibling rivalry on set. In an interview with Hauterrfly, Sonakshi recalled how she used to indulge in petty fights with her brothers as kids. She also stressed that since she was the youngest in the household, she was also pampered by her parents. Sonakshi shared, “Main sabse choti, ghar ki ladki, sabse laadli, toh bhaiyonn ko jalan toh hoti thi toh mujhe padti thi (I was the youngest sibling, the most adored. So my brothers were jealous and would beat me up)".
Despite the initial speculation and the absence of one brother from the wedding, the overall narrative suggests that the family is supportive of Sonakshi and Zaheer's marriage. Kussh's recent statement, coupled with the presence and blessings of Sonakshi's parents, and the positive remarks from her in-laws, paints a picture of a family that is "okay" with the union.
