A resurfaced clip from a 2023 episode of "Koffee with Karan" Season 8 has ignited a fresh wave of discussion around the possibility of a "Jab We Met" sequel, and who could potentially fill the iconic shoes of Geet Dhillon, originally played by Kareena Kapoor Khan. The clip features a lighthearted exchange between Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt, where the topic of recasting Geet in a hypothetical sequel arises.

During the segment, Karan Johar posed a question to Kareena, asking her to choose between Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, Ananya Panday, and Shanaya Kapoor for the role of Geet in "Jab We Met 2." Before Kareena could answer, Alia Bhatt playfully interjected, questioning why she wasn't on the list. Alia then admitted, "Okay fine. I'd love to."

However, Kareena's response was firm and immediate. "I don't think Geet can be done again," she stated, shutting down the idea of anyone, including Alia, reprising her role. This statement has resonated with many fans who believe Kareena's portrayal of Geet is irreplaceable.

The character of Geet Dhillon in "Jab We Met" (2007) has become a cultural phenomenon. Geet, a vivacious and free-spirited Punjabi girl, who encounters Aditya (Shahid Kapoor), a heartbroken businessman, on a train. Their meeting leads to an unexpected journey of self-discovery and love. Kareena Kapoor's performance was widely praised and is considered one of the best of her career.

Kareena's sentiment echoes what director Imtiaz Ali has expressed regarding a "Jab We Met" sequel. In March 2025, following a reunion between Kareena and Shahid at the IIFA Awards, rumors of a sequel began circulating. However, Imtiaz Ali clarified that he isn't planning a sequel. He stated that "we should savour that and we should not spoil it by coming up with a sequel at all." He acknowledged the great experience he had working with both actors but emphasized the importance of cherishing the original film.

Interestingly, back in 2015, Shahid Kapoor himself suggested Alia Bhatt as a potential Geet. During promotions for their film "Shaandaar," Shahid said, "But if anybody could play Geet in future or a character like her than it is you Alia because you are like her. Your energy matches to Geet." Alia responded to this compliment with gratitude.

Despite Shahid's past endorsement and Alia's interest, Kareena's firm stance reflects the immense impact her portrayal had on audiences. Social media users largely agree with Kareena, with many stating that "Geet means Kareena, Kareena means Geet." Some fans have suggested that Sara Ali Khan, being Kareena's stepdaughter, could potentially take on the role, but the overwhelming consensus remains that Kareena's Geet is unique and cannot be replicated.

The debate surrounding a potential "Jab We Met 2" highlights the enduring legacy of the original film and the indelible mark Kareena Kapoor left on the character of Geet. While Alia Bhatt's desire to play the role is understandable, it seems the magic of "Jab We Met" might be best left untouched, preserving the original's charm and Kareena's iconic performance.
