Bollywood actress Richa Chadha has strongly condemned the murder of Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old former state-level tennis player who was allegedly shot dead by her father in Gurugram. Chadha referred to Radhika's father, Deepak Yadav, as a "loser" and criticized those attempting to justify the heinous crime.
The incident occurred on July 10, 2025, at the Yadav family's residence in Sushant Lok Phase-3, Sector 57, Gurugram. Deepak Yadav, 49, reportedly shot his daughter at point-blank range. He was arrested and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Police investigations suggest that Deepak was unhappy with Radhika's continued coaching work and income from tennis training, despite his objections. He reportedly felt taunted by villagers for relying on his daughter's earnings.
Initial reports suggested Radhika ran a tennis academy, which caused tension between her and Deepak. However, Radhika's uncle, Vijay Yadav, has denied these claims, stating that she did not own a formal academy but trained aspiring players by booking tennis courts across the city. Inspector Vinod Kumar of Sector 56 police station also clarified that Radhika's social media presence and a 2023 music video appearance had no direct connection to the murder.
According to investigators, the murder was premeditated. Deepak allegedly sent his son out to buy milk, a task he usually did himself, before allegedly firing four rounds into his daughter's back while she was preparing breakfast for her mother. Radhika suffered three gunshot wounds to the back and one to the shoulder. Police recovered the licensed revolver used in the murder, along with four spent cartridges. Deepak Yadav confessed to the crime, citing social pressure and personal resentment. He claimed that taunts from villagers about living off his daughter's income and questioning her character deeply disturbed him. However, police investigations revealed that Deepak had a steady rental income and was financially secure.
Radhika's friend, Himanshika Singh, claimed that the murder was planned three days in advance and that Radhika's life had become miserable in the ten days leading up to her death. She alleged that Deepak was influenced by his friends, who were jealous of Radhika's success and provoked him with comments about her clothing, makeup, and online popularity.
The Gurugram police have stated they are not seeking statements from friends or those who posted tributes and allegations on social media, calling it an "open and shut" case. They are proceeding with a charge sheet based on strong forensic and testimonial evidence. Radhika's mother, Manju Yadav, who was present at home during the incident, has not been named in the case.
The tragic murder of Radhika Yadav has sparked outrage and condemnation. Richa Chadha's strong words reflect the sentiment of many who believe that there is no justification for such a violent act. The case highlights the dangers of social pressure, patriarchal attitudes, and the devaluation of women's contributions.
