Following a concerning shooting incident outside his Mumbai residence in April 2024, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has significantly upgraded the security measures at his Galaxy Apartments in Bandra. This includes the installation of bulletproof glass on his balcony, a move that has garnered considerable attention. The actor's decision comes amidst ongoing death threats, primarily linked to the jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his gang.
The enhanced security features at Khan's residence include not only the bulletproof glass on the balcony, but also a high-tech security system and high-resolution CCTV cameras to monitor the surrounding area. The bulletproof glass specifically aims to ensure Khan's safety when he appears on the balcony to greet his fans, a regular practice that makes him visible and potentially vulnerable.
The threats against Salman Khan have a complex history, stemming from the 1998 Blackbuck hunting case. The Bishnoi community reveres blackbucks, and Lawrence Bishnoi has publicly vowed to target Khan over the incident. This long-standing feud has resulted in multiple threats against the actor, escalating to the point of violence.
The April 2024 shooting incident saw two men on a motorcycle firing several rounds at Khan's residence before fleeing. Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence's brother, claimed responsibility for the attack in a Facebook post. This event prompted Khan to enhance his personal security and fortify his home against potential future attacks.
Adding to the sense of threat, former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, known to be close to Salman Khan, was shot dead in Mumbai in October 2024. Investigations revealed that Siddique's close ties to Khan were a significant motive behind the murder. Anmol Bishnoi has also been implicated in Siddique's killing and has since been detained in the United States.
In addition to the physical security upgrades, Salman Khan has also taken other precautions. He has acquired a bulletproof Nissan Patrol SUV, imported from Dubai, and reinforced his personal security team with additional armed personnel. Mumbai Police have also established a specialized command center at his residence. Similar security measures have been implemented at the sets of "Bigg Boss 18," where Khan serves as the host.
The Mumbai Traffic Police received a threatening message demanding ₹5 crore as "forgiveness" money for Khan, with a warning of a fate "worse than Baba Siddique" if the demand was not met. This further heightened the urgency for enhanced security measures at Khan's home and workplaces.
Despite the ongoing threats and security concerns, Salman Khan remains committed to his work. He is currently filming for his upcoming movie "Sikandar," scheduled for release on Eid 2025.
