Vishnu Manchu's mythological action drama "Kannappa," which was released in theaters on June 27, 2025, is reportedly heading to OTT. According to reports, the film will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video on July 25, 2025, less than a month after its theatrical debut. However, neither the filmmakers nor the streaming service have formally confirmed this information.

Before the film's release, Vishnu Manchu stated that he had not finalized an OTT deal. He mentioned having the freedom to showcase the film in theaters without the pressure of an immediate OTT release. He said that his movie would not be available on OTT for at least ten weeks, allowing him to focus on providing the best possible cinematic experience for the audience.

"Kannappa" tells the story of Thinnadu, a young tribal hunter who is an atheist. He discovers a Shiva Lingam in the forest and begins to make offerings to it. The film depicts his transformation into a devout follower of Lord Shiva. The legend of Kannappa is based on mythological texts that refer to him as a saint.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Vishnu Manchu in the lead role, as well as Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, and Preity Mukhundhan. Prabhas, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal make cameo appearances. Mukesh Kumar Singh directed the film, which Vishnu Manchu wrote.

"Kannappa" was launched on August 18, 2023, and principal photography commenced on September 25, 2023, in New Zealand. Stephen Devassy composed the film's original score and songs.

The film's narrative is set in the 2nd century in the region of present-day Srikalahasti. It revolves around Thinnadu's journey from an atheist to a devotee after falling in love with Nemali, a follower of Lord Shiva. Banished from his village, Thinnadu's devotion deepens, culminating in a divine encounter on Maha Shivaratri.

Vishnu Manchu plays Thinnadu/Kannappa, and the cast includes Mohanlal as Kirata, Prabhas as Rudra, Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva, and Kajal Aggarwal as Goddess Parvati. Preity Mukhundhan plays Nemali, Mohan Babu is Mahadeva Sastri, and R. Sarathkumar is Nathanathudu.

The film was produced with an estimated budget of ₹200 crore. While originally filmed in Telugu, it was released simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

"Kannappa" received mixed reviews from critics upon its release. Despite a star-studded cast and significant pre-release buzz, the film's box office performance declined after a promising start. After eleven days, the movie grossed ₹46 crore worldwide. Vishnu Manchu addressed piracy concerns, noting that over 30,000 illegal links to the film had been taken down.

Even though the official announcement is awaited, if the reports are accurate, "Kannappa" will soon be available on Amazon Prime Video.
