Hrithik Roshan is reportedly set to earn a substantial amount for his role in the upcoming action thriller War 2, potentially exceeding Rs 100 crore through a profit-sharing deal with Yash Raj Films (YRF). This agreement places him alongside Bollywood's elite Khans – Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir – who are known for securing similar backend deals with the studio.
War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Aditya Chopra, marks Hrithik's return as Major Kabir Dhaliwal, a role he first portrayed in the 2019 blockbuster War. The film is the sixth installment in the YRF Spy Universe and is slated for a worldwide release on August 14, 2025, coinciding with the Indian Independence Day weekend.
According to reports, Hrithik has received an upfront fee of Rs 50 crore for War 2. In addition to this hefty sum, he will also receive a share of the film's profits after its theatrical run. Given the high box office expectations surrounding War 2, this profit-sharing arrangement could significantly boost Hrithik's earnings.
War 2 has been made on a budget of Rs 400 crore, making it the most expensive film in the YRF Spy Universe to date. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Jr NTR, who is making his Bollywood debut, Kiara Advani, and Anil Kapoor. Jr NTR has reportedly been paid Rs 70 crore, while Kiara Advani and Anil Kapoor are said to have received Rs 15 crore and Rs 10 crore, respectively. Ayan Mukerji, the director, has reportedly been paid Rs 30 crore.
The film's trailer was released on July 25, 2025, and it showcases intense face-offs between Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, promising high-octane action and a deeper plot. The storyline involves Hrithik's character, Kabir, going rogue, leading India to send its deadliest agent, Vikram (Jr NTR), after him.
War 2 is not the only project Hrithik Roshan has lined up. He is also set to appear in Krrish 4, which is slated for release in 2026, and make a cameo appearance in Alpha, another film in the YRF Spy Universe, scheduled for release on December 25, 2025.
With its massive budget, star-studded cast, and high expectations, War 2 is poised to be one of the biggest hits of the year. The film is scheduled to be released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, with plans for a wide IMAX rollout. It will also be the first Indian film to be released in the Dolby Cinema format.
