Actress Dipika Kakar, currently recovering from stage 2 liver cancer and a recent tumor surgery, has shared a heartwarming update about reconnecting with her son, Ruhaan. In a recent vlog, the actress emotionally revealed that she is now able to hold Ruhaan on her lap again after her stitches healed.
Dipika expressed the immense joy and value she places on these small moments, especially after her cancer diagnosis. She shared that when she first learned about her condition, she worried if she would ever be able to experience these moments with her son again. Now that things are returning to normal, she is cherishing every moment. While she still cannot carry him, she is grateful that he can lie on her lap and sleep.
Dipika's journey began when she experienced severe pain in her upper stomach, leading to the discovery of a tennis ball-sized tumor in her liver. The tumor was confirmed to be stage 2 malignant cancer. In June 2025, Dipika underwent a grueling 14-hour surgery to remove the tumor. During the surgery, doctors also removed her gall bladder due to a stone. Her husband, Shoaib Ibrahim, shared that a small portion of her liver was also removed because the liver had a tumour. He reassured fans that the liver can regenerate itself.
Following the surgery, Dipika has been undergoing targeted therapy. She began the therapy in July and is taking precautions as advised by her doctors. These precautions include staying hydrated, eating well, nourishing her skin, and avoiding direct sunlight. The treatment can cause side effects such as mouth ulcers and scaly skin, and she has been advised to wear gloves and socks at all times.
Dipika has been candid about the challenges she has faced during her treatment. She shared that she experienced a sudden drop in energy levels and developed tongue ulcers. Her ongoing treatment could potentially last for up to two years due to the possibility of recurrence.
Earlier, Dipika expressed how much she missed being able to physically care for Ruhaan. She longed to regain the strength to lift him in her arms again. While she was unable to lift him, she would sit with him on the floor to play. Shoaib shared how their son Ruhaan coped during this difficult time. He mentioned that Ruhaan seemed to understand that his mother wasn't well.
Despite the challenges, Dipika remains positive and determined to face her health journey with strength. She is grateful for the support of her family, friends, and fans. She is currently focusing on her health and family, and awaiting medical clearance before returning to work. While she had initially planned to return to acting after Ruhaan stopped breastfeeding and she regained her fitness, her cancer diagnosis changed her plans.
Dipika's story has touched many hearts, with fans and industry friends sending their prayers and support. Her strength and resilience serve as an inspiration to others facing similar challenges. She cherishes every step of her recovery and the irreplaceable moments with her son.
