Mallik revealed that his then-girlfriend broke up with him because of his Muslim surname, an experience that deeply affected him.

Mallik shared that the relationship, which lasted from 2014 to 2019, faced opposition from the woman's parents due to his religious identity and his career in the film industry. He recounted a poignant moment when she called him on the day of her wedding, suggesting they elope. However, Mallik, drawing inspiration from Shah Rukh Khan's character in "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge," decided against it, believing that a future together wouldn't be possible if her parents couldn't accept his religion and respect his profession.

"We were in a relationship from 2014 to 2019. But her parents were against my religion and career. They didn't want to associate their daughter with anyone from this industry," Amaal explained. He further added, "I was about to perform a gig when she called me and said she is getting married, but she would elope if I came to her. But, I guess the SRK from DDLJ in me woke up and said, 'No, if your parents can't accept my religion and respect my career, then I wish you the best.'".

Mallik expressed his disappointment at being judged based on his surname, emphasizing that he doesn't strictly adhere to Islamic practices. "They were Jaats. They were like you are from Islamic background. I was like there is not even I of Islam in me. I don't follow the religion to the T. I am the least religious guy. I believe in Karma. We neutrally respect every religion," he stated. Despite the heartbreak, Mallik now views the experience positively, recognizing that it was better to part ways with people who held such narrow-minded views. "For me to take that understanding that someone is judging me on the basis of my surname or what I am in Bollywood–I was like, 'Good I didn't associate with them because they are not my kind of people.' I don't think our relationship would have worked in the long run. I need broad-minded people. Now, I don't miss her," he said.

This revelation comes after Mallik's recent announcement about his estrangement from his family, highlighting a period of emotional turmoil in his life.
