Actor Ali Fazal has recently shared a poignant and heartfelt message on social media, commemorating the fifth death anniversary of his mother. The actor, known for his roles in 'Mirzapur' and 'Fukrey,' expressed the deep sense of loss he feels each year on this particular day.

In a touching Instagram post on June 17, 2025, Ali Fazal opened up about the pain he associates with the day his mother passed away in 2020. He touchingly wrote about how it felt like he lost not only his mother but also a part of himself. He revealed that after his mother's demise, he also had to say goodbye to the younger version of himself. Fazal's mother passed away on June 17, 2020, in Lucknow owing to health complications.

The actor shared a series of throwback photos, including cherished moments with his mother and a childhood picture of himself. The initial image showcased his mother in her younger years, radiating style and happiness. Subsequent photos captured various phases of her life, including a particularly moving image of her holding baby Ali.

Ali conveyed that not just the day, but the entire month of June is difficult for him. He described a feeling of dread that resurfaces annually as the anniversary approaches. In his post, he reflected on his personal grief and extended his empathy towards others experiencing loss around the world.

Fazal articulated the complexity of his emotions, contemplating the nature of loss and empathy. He mused about how experiencing personal loss can amplify one's understanding and compassion for the suffering of others. He wrote, "I am like a fly on that wall, much like most of us through social media today we have seen it all... then in a miraculous way, I switch back to where I hit pause (remember?) - now my feeling of loss is doubled up with an empathy of a universal kind?"

He further questioned whether "too much hands-on knowledge of loss" should diminish the impact of what is considered personal grief. The actor pondered whether he should heed the advice to not take the world's guilt upon himself, ultimately concluding that he couldn't simply dismiss the weight of his emotions.

Despite the sorrow, Fazal's message also contained a sense of hope and resilience. He acknowledged the blessings in his life, including his wife, Richa Chadha, with whom he feels at home. Richa responded to his post with a supportive comment, "en route ...patience," accompanied by heart emojis.

On the work front, Ali Fazal is preparing for his upcoming film 'Metro...In Dino', directed by Anurag Basu. Reflecting on his role as a musician in the film, Fazal shared, "It feels like life has truly come full circle. I started my film career with a small role... To now be playing Akash—a musician in Metro... In Dino—years later, feels like a poetic continuation of that journey."
