The film "Animal" has roared its way to success at the 71st National Film Awards, securing three prestigious awards. The movie won for Best Music Direction (Background Music), Best Sound Design, and a Special Mention for Re-Recording Mixer. The film featured Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Triptii Dimri.
Anil Kapoor, who played a significant role in the film, expressed his joy and pride by sending a "HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Team Animal!". He specifically mentioned Charshavardhan Rameshwar, Crajakrishnan, and sound engineers Sachin Sudhakaran and Tyler Durden, acknowledging their contribution to the film's success.
Producer Bhushan Kumar also shared his excitement over the film's achievements. In an official statement, Kumar said it was a moment of immense pride for T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures. He added that receiving multiple National Awards for the film's music validated the stories they back and the talent they collaborate with. Kumar extended his congratulations to everyone involved and expressed gratitude to the jury and audiences for their continued support.
"Animal" tells the story of Ranvijay "Vijay" Singh (Ranbir Kapoor), the son of a wealthy industrialist, and his complicated relationship with his father (Anil Kapoor). The relationship is further strained after an assassination attempt on the father, leading Vijay to transform brutally and seek vengeance.
While "Animal" has garnered significant awards and recognition, it has also faced mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Some have criticized the film for its violence and portrayal of women, while others have praised Ranbir Kapoor's performance and the film's intense emotional core. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express called the film pointless and vile, while other critics lauded Kapoor's performance.
Despite the mixed critical reception, "Animal" was a commercial success, and a sequel, titled "Animal Park," is already in early development. Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has stated that the sequel will be darker and meaner than the first film. Shooting is expected to commence in 2026. Anil Kapoor has also revealed that Vanga has plans for a third film in the series.
The 71st National Film Awards celebrated the best of Indian cinema for 2023, recognizing films released between January 1 and December 31.
