Malayalam actor Shanavas, son of the legendary Prem Nazir, has passed away at the age of 71 in Thiruvananthapuram. He breathed his last late Monday night at a private hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for kidney-related ailments. He was admitted to the hospital just a few hours before his passing. His funeral will be held this evening at the Palayam Muslim Jamaath cemetery.

Shanavas, born to Prem Nazir and Habeeba Beevi, began his acting career in 1981 with the film 'Premageethangal', directed by Balachandra Menon. He pursued his MA in English Literature at New College, Chennai, while starting his film career. Over the course of his career, he acted in 96 films, showcasing his versatility in roles ranging from romantic leads to intense villains. Some of his memorable films include 'Mouna Raagam' and 'China Town'. He also shared screen space with his father, Prem Nazir, in seven films, beginning with 'Ivan Oru Simham'.

After a long break from acting, Shanavas made a comeback in 2011 with 'China Town'. His final film was 'Jana Gana Mana' (2022), starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. In addition to his film career, Shanavas also appeared in several popular television serials.

Shanavas is remembered as a calm and thoughtful personality. Those who worked with him recalled him as humble and sincere.

Prem Nazir, Shanavas's father, was one of Malayalam cinema's most influential leading men. Born Abdul Khader on April 7, 1926, in Chirayinkeezhu, Travancore, he was known as the "Evergreen Hero". He held two Guinness World Records: for playing the lead role in a record 725 films and for playing opposite the same heroine in 130 films. Prem Nazir passed away on January 16, 1989. Prem Nazir was married to Habeeba Beevi and had one son, Shanavas, and three daughters. Shanavas is survived by his wife, Aisha, and two sons, Ajit Khan and Shameer Khan. Shameer Khan has also acted in a Malayalam film.

Shanavas's death is mourned by family, friends, and fans, leaving behind a legacy in Malayalam cinema.
