During a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers on August 12, 2025, Zoë Kravitz recounted a comical yet stressful incident that occurred while she and her mother, Lisa Bonet, were houseguests at Taylor Swift's home. The pair sought refuge at Swift's residence earlier this year to escape the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. They brought along Bonet's pet snake, Orpheus.
Kravitz described Swift's house as a beautiful, classic structure from the '30s, emphasizing the desire to preserve and care for it. Ironically, their stay involved a near-destruction of a bathroom due to Orpheus's adventurous spirit.
On their last day at Swift's house, as Kravitz was preparing to leave for work, Bonet was washing her face in an upstairs bathroom when Orpheus, who she had set down for a moment, disappeared. Bonet discovered that the snake had slithered into a small, unnoticed hole in the corner of the bathroom, next to a banquette built into the wall. Kravitz described finding her mother crouched in the corner, desperately clutching Orpheus's tail to prevent him from disappearing completely into the wall.
Panicked, Kravitz and Bonet realized they needed to act quickly to retrieve Orpheus. They contacted Swift's house manager, who advised them that the only way to get the snake out was to dismantle the banquette. Faced with the dilemma of potentially destroying Swift's bathroom or leaving a snake permanently residing within her walls, they chose the former.
"We're ripping up the tile. We're scratching the walls," Kravitz explained. The rescue mission involved a crowbar and a significant amount of demolition. Kravitz recalled thinking, "Either we destroy her bathroom, or I have to tell her that there's a snake somewhere in her house".
Kravitz, mortified, was concerned about Swift finding out about the incident and planned to have the bathroom fully repaired before Swift returned. She told the house manager, "Obviously, I'm gonna pay for everything to be fixed. Please just don't say anything until it's fixed".
Despite her efforts to keep the incident under wraps, Swift found out. When Kravitz called Swift to explain, Swift immediately responded, "Is it the fact that you almost lost a snake in my house and destroyed my bathroom?".
Seth Meyers joked that the snake would likely inspire three songs on Swift's new album, The Life of a Showgirl, which Swift announced on August 12.
