In a recent interview, journalist Pooja Samant revealed the emotional turmoil Katrina Kaif experienced after her breakup with Ranbir Kapoor, including the actress's own fears that she had damaged her career. Samant recounted a meeting with Kaif following the split, describing her as "crying like anything" and blaming herself for professional choices made during their relationship.
According to Samant, Kaif confessed to feeling she had "ruined my career" because of Kapoor. The journalist explained that Kaif had turned down several film offers while dating Kapoor, anticipating marriage and a shift in her career. Kaif might have believed that marrying into the Kapoor family would mean less work, as daughters-in-law were not always allowed to continue working in films at that time. This led her to forgo major projects, expecting a secure future that ultimately did not materialize.
"She was saying I have made a mistake, and I am responsible for my loss of work,” Samant recalled, adding, “She was crying and telling us that she fell in love with him and then things didn't work out… But because of him, I ruined my career". The separation reportedly had a devastating effect on Kaif's self-assurance, leading to a period of withdrawal from friends and public appearances.
Kaif and Kapoor's relationship, which began in the early 2010s, was highly publicized. Their romance was confirmed after leaked pictures from their Ibiza vacation surfaced. There were even talks of marriage in 2015, but the couple broke up in 2016.
The breakup triggered isolation, emotional distress, and intense self-doubt about her career. However, this difficult phase also spurred her toward one of Bollywood's strongest comebacks. Despite the pain, Kaif has since built a happier and more secure personal life. She married Vicky Kaushal in December 2021 in a private ceremony.
Notably, Kapoor was previously in a relationship with Deepika Padukone. He is now married to Alia Bhatt, and they have a daughter named Raha. Padukone is married to Ranveer Singh, and they have a daughter named Dua.
Kaif's early career involved struggles, including a lack of knowledge of Hindi when she arrived in Mumbai. She began as a model and transitioned to acting with the film "Boom" in 2003, though she considers her film career to have truly started with "Sarkar" in 2005, followed by "Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya".
