Kareena Kapoor Celebrates ‘Amma’ Sharmila Tagore’s 81st With Throwback Album
Marking the 81st birthday of veteran actress Sharmila Tagore, Kareena Kapoor Khan shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, offering fans a glimpse into their close bond. The Bollywood star affectionately referred to Tagore as "Amma" in her birthday wish, which was accompanied by a series of cherished throwback photos.
Kareena posted the images to her Instagram account on Monday, December 8, 2025. The shared photographs capture Sharmila in endearing moments with her family, reflecting the warmth and love they share. One of the photos shows Sharmila sharing a gentle moment with her son Saif Ali Khan, with a young Taimur also seemingly in the frame. Another picture shows Kareena walking alongside her mother-in-law, with Kareena stating she is "Always trying to follow in your footsteps".
In addition to the photos, Kareena also lauded Sharmila's return to Bengali cinema after a 14-year hiatus. Kareena shared a video expressing her excitement for Sharmila's new film, "Puratawn," and called her mother-in-law the "original Bengal tigress". "Hi, this is Kareena Kapoor Khan, and I'd like to send my best wishes to the iconic, legendary Sharmila Tagore, my mother-in-law, who is finally returning to Bengali cinema after almost 14 years," Kareena said in the video. She added, "She was, and always will be the original Bengal tigress. I think everyone is looking forward to seeing this beautiful film. So am I, in cinemas. So I'd like to send my heartiest congratulations and all the very best to the entire team".
Last year, on Sharmila's 80th birthday, Kareena shared images with the caption, "Who's the coolest Gangsta ever? Do I need to say? Happy birthday to my mother-in-law. Just the best". The pictures showed the pair in relaxed, casual outfits.
Sharmila Tagore began her acting career at the young age of 13 with Satyajit Ray's "The World of Apu," and established herself in Bengali cinema before becoming a leading Bollywood star. Her notable works include films like "Amar Prem," "Anupama," and "An Evening in Paris".
Kareena's heartfelt birthday post underscores the strong bond she shares with her mother-in-law, Sharmila. Married to Saif Ali Khan since 2012, Kareena has often spoken about her admiration and respect for Sharmila. The couple has two sons, Taimur and Jehangir, who are often seen in family pictures with their grandmother.
Other members of the family also shared their wishes for Sharmila. Soha Ali Khan, Sharmila's younger daughter, posted a series of heartwarming images on Instagram, including a picture of herself kissing her mother on the forehead. Saba Pataudi also wished her mother via social media.
