Akshay Kumar has lauded Ranveer Singh's new film Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar. The film, which also stars Akshaye Khanna and Sanjay Dutt, has been described as a gripping spy thriller inspired by real events.
Kumar shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), stating he was "blown away" by Dhurandhar. He praised Aditya Dhar for "nailing it" and emphasized the importance of telling such stories in a hard-hitting way. He also expressed his satisfaction that audiences are giving the film the love it deserves.
Dhurandhar follows an Indian spy who infiltrates Pakistani gangs to gather intelligence and prevent them from harming India. The film features Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi in key roles.
Since its release on December 5, 2025, Dhurandhar has been a box office success, grossing approximately ₹233 crore worldwide. The film opened with an estimated ₹28.60 crore net on its first day, with strong word-of-mouth and weekend growth further boosting collections. Domestically, the film crossed the ₹150 crore mark within five days.
In addition to its box office success, Dhurandhar has also secured a significant deal for its OTT rights. Netflix acquired the streaming rights for both parts of the film for ₹130 crore, which translates to approximately ₹65 crore for each part. According to a source, this is Ranveer Singh's biggest OTT deal yet, considering both parts. The deal is particularly noteworthy given the current trend of decreasing OTT prices.
Dhurandhar has garnered support from other prominent figures as well, including actress and politician Smriti Irani, who has praised the film's nationalistic themes. However, the film has also faced some controversy, particularly regarding the portrayal of the late Pakistani police official Chaudhary Aslam Khan, played by Sanjay Dutt. Khan's widow, Noreen, has expressed concerns about the accuracy of the portrayal and has indicated potential legal action if his legacy is misrepresented.
Despite the controversy, Dhurandhar has resonated with audiences and critics alike, with many praising its gripping storyline, powerful performances, and bold storytelling. Akshay Kumar's endorsement adds to the film's positive reception, further solidifying its position as a must-watch spy thriller.
