Demi Moore recently shared a surprising anecdote about working with Tom Cruise during the pre-production of the 1992 film, A Few Good Men. In a Q&A session at the New Yorker Festival on October 25, 2025, Moore revealed that she felt Cruise was "embarrassed" by her pregnancy at the time.
Moore, who was nearly eight months pregnant with her daughter Scout Willis, explained that she sensed Cruise found the situation "awkward". "I think Tom was quite embarrassed," Moore stated. "I actually felt okay about it. I was moving around, though, right? But I could tell he felt that it was a bit awkward".
The actress attributed Cruise's potential discomfort to the prevailing norms in Hollywood at the time. She noted that it was uncommon for leading actresses to be visibly pregnant while working on major film productions. Moore felt that women were often pressured to choose between having a family and pursuing a career. "It's one of the many things, for me, that I just felt didn't make sense," she said. "And so I challenged that to say, you know, 'Why not? Why can't you have both?'".
Despite feeling comfortable with her pregnancy, Moore admitted to placing immense pressure on herself to prove that women could successfully balance motherhood and a career. She recalled becoming "a bit of an overachiever" and pushing herself physically. Moore remembered working out and trying to get in shape for the film, even before giving birth, with the intention of fitting into a military uniform. She even recounted doing "a two-and-a-half-hour hike the day my water broke, a 24-mile bike ride, and then was dancing at a reggae club," which she believes contributed to her daughter's early arrival.
Looking back, Moore recognizes the challenges she faced and the pressure she put on herself. "I look back at that time now, and I go, 'What the f*** was I thinking?' And what was I even trying to prove? But it wasn't as supported as it is today," she reflected. She expressed pride in the progress Hollywood has made in supporting young mothers in the industry.
Moore's career includes notable roles in films such as Ghost, Indecent Proposal, and Disclosure. In 2019, she released her memoir, Inside Out, which details her personal struggles and relationships. In 2025, People magazine named her the most beautiful woman in the world.
