Prerna Arora, the producer of the upcoming supernatural thriller Jatadhara, has revealed the emotional and technical challenges Sonakshi Sinha faced while portraying her character. The film, which explores themes of ambition, greed, and ancient rituals, is set to release in theaters on November 7, 2025, in both Hindi and Telugu.
Arora, in an exclusive interview, described casting Sonakshi Sinha as the "perfect choice" to play the demonic entity in Jatadhara. According to Arora, Sinha was her first choice for the role, especially after her performance in Heeramandi. Arora wanted a female actor from the Bombay industry who could bridge the Hindi and Telugu industries, and Sinha fit the bill perfectly. Sinha immediately accepted the role after reading the script.
The producer shared insights into Sonakshi Sinha's transformation into a demon goddess, the challenges of her look and the action sequences. Arora said that the action sequences were particularly tough for Sonakshi Sinha, since she had to wear a heavy costume and elaborate jewellery for hours on set. The crowns that she wore were also heavy. The team experimented with multiple crowns to find the one that suited her best, since she needed to look powerful but not divine.
Arora also said that there are several surprising elements about Sinha's character that haven't been revealed yet and that it's something very different and truly challenging for her.
The narrative of Jatadhara reflects themes including ambition, greed, and the persistent influence of ancient rituals. Through its supernatural premise, the film examines how stories and curses from the past continue to affect the present, as restless spirits and old grievances are awakened by those seeking fortune.
The character of Dhan Pisachani, which Sinha embodies, is a mystical figure crafted from the blend of light and darkness, grace and danger. Arora said that bringing Dhan Pisachani to life took a three-month research and design process. She explained that Dhan is the divine form of energy. Although the directors had an initial idea of how she should look, Arora visualized her differently and was inspired by Nayantara by Mukti Amman. After several discussions, they agreed on a middle ground that made the character more cinematic and visually magnetic while staying true to her mythological essence. Almost three months were spent researching her aura, jewellery, and overall design to ensure she embodies both grace and power.
Jatadhara delves into the persistent influence of black magic in India despite technological advancements. The film explores the conflict between superstition and faith, showcasing how fear and jealousy disrupt families and society, with Lord Shiva's divine force offering guidance. The story also highlights that divine power, especially linked to Lord Shiva, brings clarity and strength.
The film also stars Sudheer Babu, Shilpa Shirodkar, Indira Krishna, Ravi Prakash, Naveen Neni, Rohit Pathak, Jhansi, Rajeev Kanakala, and Subhalekha Sudhakar.
