Kamal Haasan Celebrates Sivakarthikeyan's 'Amaran' Selection as the Prestigious IFFI 2025 Opening Film

Veteran actor and producer Kamal Haasan has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Sivakarthikeyan and the entire team of "Amaran" after the film was chosen as the opening feature in the Indian Panorama section at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The festival is scheduled to be held in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2025.

"Amaran," which stars Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi in lead roles, has garnered significant attention for its compelling storyline and powerful performances. The film is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan. It tells the story of a soldier whose courage and sacrifice deeply moved the nation.

Kamal Haasan expressed his pride and gratitude in a statement released earlier today. He lauded the film's selection as a momentous occasion, emphasizing the importance of sharing Major Mukund Varadarajan's inspiring story with a global audience. "Proud to share the immortal Major Mukund Varadarajan's story that stirred India's soul will now echo across the world," Haasan stated. He also expressed his delight that "Amaran" has been nominated for the Golden Peacock Award under the International Competition at IFFI.

Sivakarthikeyan, who considers Kamal Haasan a mentor, has yet to release a formal statement but sources close to the actor say that he is deeply honored and humbled by both the recognition from IFFI and the support from Kamal Haasan.

The selection of "Amaran" as the opening film is a significant achievement for the entire team, especially director Rajkumar Periasamy, and music composer GV Prakash, who also received congratulations from Kamal Haasan. The movie is produced by Kamal Haasan's Raajkamal Films International and Sony Pictures International Productions.

IFFI, recognized as one of Asia's most prestigious film festivals, provides a platform for filmmakers and artists to showcase their work to a diverse and international audience. The Indian Panorama section specifically highlights contemporary Indian films that demonstrate cinematic excellence and contribute to the country's rich cultural heritage.

In related news, Tamil film superstar Rajinikanth will be felicitated at the closing ceremony of IFFI 2025, adding another layer of excitement for Tamil cinema enthusiasts.

Kamal Haasan and Sivakarthikeyan share a close bond, with the former often praising the latter's dedication and passion for cinema. Haasan has been a strong supporter of Sivakarthikeyan's career, acknowledging his growth from television to a leading film actor and producer. In February 2025, Kamal Haasan wished Sivakarthikeyan on his 40th birthday, celebrating his dedication to cinema and referring to him as a "prince" for investing his earnings back into the film industry.
