In a resurfaced video, Janhvi Kapoor shared insights into her father, Boney Kapoor's, struggle with smoking and the lengths her late mother, Sridevi, went to in order to help him quit. Janhvi revealed that Boney Kapoor was heavily addicted to cigarettes, and his habit became a point of contention within the family.
According to Janhvi, the family resided in their Juhu house during the time Boney Kapoor's smoking was at its peak, around the period when he was involved with films like "No Entry" and "Wanted". Janhvi and her younger sister, Khushi, would attempt to sabotage his cigarette packets in various ways. She recounted how they would cut up his cigarettes or apply toothpaste to them in an effort to deter him from smoking.
Despite their efforts, nothing seemed to work, and Sridevi would often argue with Boney about his habit. Determined to make a change, Sridevi made a significant sacrifice. She vowed to abstain from non-vegetarian food until Boney stopped smoking. This was a considerable commitment, as doctors had advised her to consume non-vegetarian food to maintain her strength, but she remained steadfast in her decision. Janhvi recalled how Boney would plead with Sridevi to reconsider, but she remained firm.
Janhvi revealed that her mother's passing served as a turning point for Boney Kapoor.. About four or five years ago, he decided to quit smoking, influenced by Sridevi's wishes. Janhvi quoted Boney as saying he couldn't quit then, but he would do it.
Sridevi's death in 2018 shocked the film industry and her fans. According to reports, she passed away in Dubai on February 24, 2018, as a result of accidental drowning. She was in Dubai to attend a family wedding.
Meanwhile, Janhvi Kapoor's upcoming film, "Mili," a survival thriller co-starring Sunny Kaushal, was released in theaters on November 4, 2022.
