Diljit Dosanjh Faces Bollywood Boycott? Film Body Upset Over Hania Aamir Controversy and Potential Career Impact

The release of Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming Punjabi film, Sardaar Ji 3, has been met with controversy and calls for a boycott from Indian film industry bodies due to the inclusion of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the cast. This backlash comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir on April 22, 2025, and the subsequent Operation Sindoor.

Several organizations, including the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), have strongly condemned Dosanjh's decision to cast a Pakistani artist at a time when the entire nation is united against Pakistan. AICWA has officially announced a complete boycott of Diljit Dosanjh from the Indian film industry, urging all Indian producers, production houses, music companies, event organizers, and film workers to cease all professional association with him. FWICE has echoed these sentiments, calling for a strict ban on all of Dosanjh's upcoming projects, including films, songs, and other ventures.

BN Tiwari, President of FWICE, expressed deep disappointment, stating that Dosanjh has hurt Indian sentiments and disrespected the sacrifices of brave soldiers by prioritizing Pakistani talent over Indian artists. He warned that while the film is currently slated for overseas release only, any attempt to release it in India would be met with a ban. FWICE has also reportedly sent a letter to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), requesting that Sardaar Ji 3 be denied a censor certificate.

The controversy has ignited a debate about artistic freedom, national sentiment, and cross-border collaborations. Some argue that Dosanjh's choice undermines national interests and disrespects the victims of terrorism, while others defend his right to collaborate with artists regardless of their nationality.

In light of the backlash, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have decided to forgo a theatrical release in India, opting instead for an overseas release on June 27, 2025. Despite the controversy, Dosanjh has shared a picture with Hania Aamir on his Instagram, promoting a song from the film and seemingly unfazed by the calls for a boycott. This has further fueled the outrage, with many social media users accusing him of disregarding national sentiment.

This isn't the first time the Indian film industry has faced such a dilemma. In the past, similar controversies have erupted over collaborations with Pakistani artists, often leading to bans and boycotts. The current situation highlights the delicate balance between artistic expression and nationalistic sentiments, particularly in times of heightened political tensions. It remains to be seen how this controversy will impact Diljit Dosanjh's career and future projects in the Indian film industry. The film industry bodies appear firm in their stance, emphasizing that national interest must come before personal profit or popularity.
