Anshuman Jha is now directing "Lakadbaggha 2 – The Monkey Business," the sequel to his 2023 vigilante action film "Lakadbaggha". Jha is stepping in for Sanjay Shetty, who was initially slated to direct. The decision reportedly came after three days of principal photography, with Jha taking over to ensure a cohesive vision for the project. Shetty will remain on board as a creative consultant.

According to sources close to the production, the transition was collaborative and rooted in mutual respect. One insider revealed that Jha told the team, "We will only make this film once. Let's make it the best it can be, regardless of who directs." This sentiment emphasizes a shared commitment to the film's quality and vision, prioritizing the "animal lover vigilante universe" above ego.

Aura Chandel, the film's second assistant director, highlighted Jha's deep involvement from the start. She noted his contributions to casting, including international martial arts stars Sunny Pang and Dan Chupong, as well as his influence on the VFX, score, and narrative tone. Chandel also emphasized the positive relationship between Jha and Shetty, describing it as a mentor-mentee bond. She noted that Jha assisted Shetty on ad shoots when he was just 16, and that there is no animosity between them, only a shared love for the project. The initial scenes have been reshot under Jha's direction, with a renewed focus and energy on set.

"Lakadbaggha 2 – The Monkey Business" aims to expand the vigilante's world on a global scale. The film features Sunny Pang, known for his action roles, making his Indian film debut. Jha and Pang trained in Bangkok with action choreography team. The film is currently being shot in Kolkata and West Java, Indonesia.

Jha expressed his admiration for Pang, stating, "I loved Sunny Sir's work in Headshot. It was a dream to work with him, let alone match him in a fight. Sunny Pang brings with him a legacy of real, visceral action. Having him in Lakadbaggha 2 is not just a casting win, it's a statement."

Pang shared his positive experience working on the film, stating, "This is my first time working on an Indian film, and the level of respect and passion I've experienced here has been incredible. Lakadbaggha 2 isn't just another action film, it's a story with soul, a fight with purpose. At its core, it champions animal rights, and that mission gives every punch, every kick, a deeper meaning." He also noted the intensity of the production, including training in Bangkok and shooting in Indonesia, calling it an intense and unforgettable journey.

Industry insiders suggest that Jha's deep connection to the "Lakadbaggha" world and its message of animal welfare was a key factor in the directorial change. As one crew member put it, "He's not just making a film – he's building a legacy for the voiceless." Shetty remains on the project as a creative consultant, ensuring his continued contribution to the film's development. The film promises brutal action sequences.
