The highly anticipated second season of "Peacemaker," starring John Cena as the titular character, is slated to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025. The series, created by James Gunn, continues the story of Christopher Smith, a jingoistic mercenary who believes in achieving peace at any cost.
Following the events of the film Superman (2025), the new season sees Peacemaker grappling with his past and facing new threats, including a multiversal twist. The official logline reveals that Peacemaker will discover an alternate world where life seems ideal, but this discovery will force him to confront his traumatic past and take control of his future.
The new season is confirmed to have eight episodes. James Gunn wrote all eight episodes and directed three, including the premiere. Other directors for the season include Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Alethea Jones.

Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord are also set to appear, reprising their roles from the Superman film. Michael Rooker will play Red St. Wild, who Gunn describes as "Eagley's Lex Luthor".
A new trailer, released at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, shows Peacemaker entering a parallel dimension and meeting another version of himself. The season's plot involves Rick Flag Sr. seeking revenge against Peacemaker for killing his son in The Suicide Squad.
James Gunn has stated that the season will delve deeper into Chris Smith's character and the interconnectivity between the characters and their personal lives. The season takes place one month after the events of Superman.
Filming for the season took place from June to November 2024. Gunn announced the wrap of production in November 2024.
The opening credits will feature the cast dancing to Foxy Shazam's "Oh Lord".
