The chilling silence is set to return to theaters as Paramount Pictures has officially announced "A Quiet Place Part III," slated for release on July 9, 2027. John Krasinski, who directed and co-wrote the first two installments, is confirmed to be back in the director's chair, also taking on writing and producing duties.
Krasinski subtly confirmed his return via an Instagram post, sharing an image displaying a menacing "III" along with the release date. This will be the fourth film in the "A Quiet Place" franchise, including the prequel spin-off "A Quiet Place: Day One".
Plot details for "A Quiet Place Part III" are currently under wraps. It is also unknown which cast members will be returning. However, many anticipate the return of Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe as the surviving members of the Abbott family.
The "A Quiet Place" franchise has become a modern sci-fi horror success story. The first film, released in 2018, was a box office hit, grossing $341 million worldwide on a $17 million budget and establishing Krasinski as a successful filmmaker. "A Quiet Place Part II" continued the success, earning nearly $300 million despite being released during the pandemic. The franchise has grossed over $900 million worldwide.
"A Quiet Place: Day One," a prequel directed by Michael Sarnoski, was released last year and featured a new cast led by Lupita Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, and Alex Wolff. While "Day One" had loose connections to the original storyline, it served as a standalone story within the same universe. With "A Quiet Place Part III" arriving in 2027, it will have been six years since audiences last saw the Abbott family.
Krasinski's involvement in the franchise extends beyond directing. He starred in the first film alongside his wife, Emily Blunt. He played Lee, the husband of Blunt's character Evelyn, and father to their children. Although his character died in the first film, flashbacks could allow for his return. Krasinski has expressed admiration for Blunt as a collaborator.
"A Quiet Place Part III" will be produced by Krasinski and Allyson Seeger through their Sunday Night Productions, along with Platinum Dunes. Sunday Night Productions has a first-look deal with Paramount.
The original "A Quiet Place" was written by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Krasinski. The story revolves around a world terrorized by creatures that hunt using sound, forcing the remaining humans to live in silence.
In 2020, when "A Quiet Place Part II" was released, Krasinski mentioned that he already had some ideas for a third film. He stated that while working on the first film, he had questions about where the distant fires led and who was on the other side. These questions helped him prepare for a potential third installment.
